As a Beretta fanboy I am embarrassed to say I’ve never even handled a Vertec frame until yesterday. I have been fine with the scalloped backstrap of most of my 92’s and never felt a need to try one.
Well yesterday I was looking around one of my lgs’s and they had 2 92X’s. One was a Centurion. Years ago I owned a frankengun Centurion and honestly it did nothing for me. The previous owner had done some stuff that made it less than reliable which I thought was hard to do on a 92 but I was wrong. Back then I hadn’t really gotten into home smithing so I traded it off to a guy who wanted a project gun. If it happened today I would break it down to pins and springs and start over and make a “new” gun. Alas, this was not me back then.
So I picked up this Vertec Centurion 92X and it was instantly love at first sight. The straight backstrap, ridiculously grippy plastic grip panels, checkered front and back straps made the gun adhere to my grip. I always have heard how the balance of Centurions is just right. I hated my first one but this one I understand the sentiment now. It is the RDO model but while I like optics I’m in the crowd of they look atrocious on 92 crowd. The cutouts are small and easily ignored. It has a painted orange dot, no tritium, which I will replace with either a fiber optic front or an Ameriglo night sight front at some point.
This gun made me remember how much I hate the FS safety/decocker but I still had a G conversion kit in my spare parts so after launching one of the detents into space I remembered the ziploc bag trick and converted it to a G. I also had a 12 lb spring I got from LTT years ago and installed that. It has some plastic bits that I can live with and perhaps slowly switch out but that’s just a personal thing because they don’t affect anything materially. I wasn’t a fan of the baseplate on the 18 rounders it came with so I substituted a GI 15 rounder.
I love this gun. LTT brother for reference even though it looks bigger in picture. Ugh.

I’m a huge fan of the Beretta X series. I suspect the Beretta management watched the margins both Langdon & Wilson have been enjoying on their fruit and viola, the X series was born. Once tuned, they shoot as good as they look. Nice acquisition on your part

Great gun! I have a special run Centurion with 92X frame and 92G slide from TN factory, and what a great grip! You don't need any aftermarket grips with this one. The gun now has an accurized extended Beretta Italy barrel with bushing and I use it for bullseye. Shoots 1-2 inch at 25 yds offhand. It balances just right. Never malfunctions with any type of ammo. I sold all my other range 9 mm pistols. Share the OP's admiration for this gun and can't recommend enough.
I’m really liking the X models. I picked up a M92A4 a few months ago and a 92x compact just a couple weeks back. I actually did swap the grip on the compact for the one that wraps around the back to add a slight hump to it. I left the original grips on the full size. I like the aggressive texture quite a bit on them.
I wish the compact came with night sights but I like that I can now add them easily. It did come with a metal guide rod which I like, especially in the smaller pistol.

This pains me to say, without shooting it yet, I prefer it’s handling and feel to that of my LTT’s. Unless something wacky happens when I shoot it I’m in the market for a non RDO 92X Centurion, it’s that good.

I have an older 92FS Centurion. I like it a lot. A Vertec grip might be an improvement though. My hands are big, though, and the normal grip feels good to me.

I can’t say I have big hands, medium at best. My old 92F without the backstrap scallop was slightly too big for comfort. It’s 35 years old and eventually I put a TJIAB in it and played with the short reach trigger, which I hated, and ended up with slim VZ grips which have made it shootable for me. The newer LTT’s with M9a1 frames are comfortable to me. This Vertec is a whole class better to my hand. If it’s reliable with the 12lb spring which is possibly unlikely then I might skip the TJIAB because it’s pretty good already. It also comes with Beretta’s short reset trigger which is just as described.
This thing with better night sights is the 92 to beat in my opinion. Which sucks because I really love my LTT’s and he doesn’t make a 92X Centurion version which I would buy in a heartbeat.

Just bought one too. I don't have a 92X and haven't owned a Centurion before. I will put an optic on it as soon as the Trijicon plate arrives. Also have a 92A1 slide cut by LTT and it will be interesting to compare the two.
I liked the factory wrap around grips but ended up with the Hogue version which add a small amount of size and makes it feel more like a 92 frame to me (I have large hands and don't prefer the Vertec grip). I wish the Hogue panels were as grippy as the stock ones.
Sear, slide catch lever and probably the trigger are MIM (not that it matters, just something I noted that is different from the older 92s I have). I didn't like the polymer magazine release and replaced it with a steel version. Out of the box trigger is pretty good for a 92 but I put in a lightly polished trigger and sear that I had in an M9A3. With a #12 mainspring I think it's just as nice as a TJIB.
I also don't plan to use the 18 round magazines that came with it in favor of the Mec-Gar 18 round AFC magazines.
I changed some other parts too and made it in to sort of an LTT because I can't help myself, I think I'm a 92 addict

I think I’m going to go ahead and put an optic on my M9A4 as well. Yeah, I know, lines and shit…but I have a classic 92fs to look pretty, the M9A4 is a shooter and I’d rather shoot an ugly gun good than a pretty one bad. And now that I’ve practiced with my M17 and RMR I can say that I’m better with an optic than without it.
I already changed the barrel and added a comp and the addition of the rail and the bronze finish ruins the beauty of the classic 92 series anyway. Anyone who thinks I’m being sacrilegious can buy their own and not modify it.

I think I’m going to pair this one up with a fiber optic front and black serrated rear. I would prefer night sights but I can’t find a thin front blade which is my preference for accurate shooting. An optic would be even better but they are fugly on this platform and they seem mounted high as well.
Like I said I think I will be looking for a spare, ideally a non RDO G model from factory.
No matter how you build these up the X is a winner. As a bonus they also seem to fit all my holsters as well. Probably not a surprise because my holsters are for the LTT M9A1 frame and the trigger guard shape seems to make no difference. They are just slightly over long in length.

So I took my 92X to the range this afternoon. Fired about 150 rounds. It shoots behind the dot (combat hold whatever). The sights I have on order from WC should fix that. The 12lb mainspring lit everything off without issue. I was shooting 115 grain American Eagle.
Had one malfunction. Towards the last third. The slide wouldn’t go into battery and it was a bit if a bear getting this round out. Not quite sure how this happened but here’s a pic. Went another 50 ish rounds and no other issues.
Gun was crazy dry when I got it. Never saw any sign of preservative from factory so I just lived it with tw25 on the rails and went shooting.
Good trigger but I’ve been shooting my 365 a bunch so my trigger control went to good to meh occasionally. Pulled some but not too many. This is a great gun. Another range trip and I’ll put it to work.

I was hoping LTT would do a 92X Centurion too. I sent Ernest this 92X Compact that he did his trigger work and NP3 internals and external controls. With the extended mags I get a full purchase...what a shooter it is too.

I really like the vertex grip also, I picked up a m4 and can’t believe how well it handles. I like it better than my LTT Elite, I’m now in the hunt for a 92x Centurion also. Beretta really upped their game with the 92x series.
