This is a follow up from a previous post I made when trying to decide between a P229 and a P320 X Compact. I was trying to decide between the two and it was suggested that I consider a CPO P229 and a new P320 which is the way I have decided to go. I found a CPO P229R with the E2 grips in 40 S&W in "like new" condition. It has a german frame on it and was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on that configuration. It is 499.00 with 2 mags and is a red box CPO Sig. Thanks to all who have helped me so far and to those who will in the future. Thanks, Bob “Our actions may be impeded... If it has night sights, I might jump. I have seen them going for around 450. But at 499, it is still almost half price of a new 229. I have several CPO guns and they have been great shooters. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles | |||

It is on CDNN's website and they do have other nice 229's for 400 to 450. With this being a CPO and very nice I thought it might be worth the extra money. “Our actions may be impeded... I purchased a “like new” CPO 229R DAK in 40 S&W from CDNN several months ago. Mine had the Legacy slide(like my other 229) and I am very happy with it. The CPO guns are given a “once over” by Sig, and springs and other parts replaced as necessary to bring the gun to factory specs. While it only comes with a one year warranty vs. life time on a new gun, it beats no warranty on a police trade-in. Mine had very minor handling marks on the frame, the same as all my new guns after taking them out of the safe several times. I could have saved a lot of money over the years by going to CPO guns instead of buying new. Or I could have had a larger collection for the same money! One of the fun things about CPOs is that sometimes you get a mismatch of upper and lower that just fits the bill A few years back, I was able to pick up a P229 Equinox in 357SIG with no rail. It is one of my favorite P229s And on top of that it was at a great price ------------------------------------------------------------------ NRA Benefactor . . . Certified Instructor . . . I some knowledge of the 229 but there is so much to learn and know. At this point my biggest decision will be do I buy a .40 S&W used or buy new from CDNN in a 9 mm to go with the 320 XCompact 9 mm that I am getting when it comes in to the LGS next week “Our actions may be impeded... One of the advantages of either model in .40 is that you can have a .357 Sig with only the addition of another barrel. To have the same versatility with a 9mm is some trouble and expense. That being said I have both 229 Carry models and 320 Carry models in 9mm and .40/.357 Sig. They are both very excellent weapons, only downside of the 320 is that without an external safety, I equate it with packing a BHP or 1911, cocked without the safety engaged. Guess the moral here is obvious: have a holster that completely covers the trigger, and NEVER use a flexible IWB holster unless you completely remove it from your belt to re-holster, and even then be very careful. Also very important with the non safety 320 is when making any presentation keep trigger off the trigger, seems really basic, but many who have become used to the 1911, BHP, S&W and 229 type DA/SA come up with their finger on or very near the trigger because of either having a safety engaged or a very long initial DA pull. This can be just unsafe or damn dangerous with the 320. That being said I really like the 320 and wish they had come out with the safety model first. Sorry for the thread digression.
