I've been seeing these more and more lately, but know very little about them.

Do I need to buy a new slide or send an existing slide out for modification?

Any other advice?

the best method and advice really depends on the gun. What gun are we talking about? and when you say RMR do you mean an actual Trijicon RMR or are you using that generically to mean a 'red dot'. If the later then you need to give some thought to what you are actually mounting as that again will affect how you might do it.

Or, just pick up a P320RX (compact in my instance) and enjoy it.

I was thinking about either the Trijicon RMR or the Leopold Deltapoint.

Another option. Does the gun come machined for an optic? And if so, what optic? Or does the gun come with the optic already mounted?

I have a Trijicon RMR mounted on a Glock 19 that was milled by Jagerweks. I also have a Holosun 407 mounted on a Glock 17 that was milled by L&M Precision. Both have worked great.

I’ve read of some issues with the DeltaPoint, but I have no first hand experience with them.

The P320RX comes with the Sig Romeo1 installed on the slide.

Lots of guns can now be had with factory milling. For example to the above comment no need to mill a G17/G19 if you are buying one, just get the MOS version. an older one, you can mill with a number of vendors.
In any case is this an existing gun or are you considering a purchase?

I've used a Deltapoint Pro and RMR. I prefer the RMR. The DPP sits so damn high that it needs irons that may as well be in the stratosphere to cowitness. (That said, when your DPP craps out you can get a second and have spent about the cost of a single RMR06). Generally, milled slides work somewhat better than, say, the Glock MOS. I use both milled Glock slides (done by ATEi) and MOS. If you're going to use an MOS, I know of Departments that only authorize the C&H Precision MOS plates for duty use.
