I found a P220 Elite Stainless Carry locally a few months ago and hit the range with it for the first time: I'm happy!

Before I share results: My eyesight has changed since I hit 40. The front sight of handguns is very fuzzy for me when the target is clear.

or, I can wear bifocals and try to lift head for sights, then drop for distance, and not change aim. Like that would happen.

So, my target sizes now are based on self-defense. I accept I probably will no longer be able to achieve 8 shot clusters that would fit under a Kennedy half-dollar. [Did that twice- but 7 years ago or so].

Secondly, Sig's don't feel as 'natural' in my hand as a few of my other options. The barrel height and stuff kind of throws me off.

So- today I hit the range and tried it out. Considering I really was going off of informed instinct about front sight being 'perfectly' aligned [I could see it, but it was VERY fuzzy], I am happy with the group I produced.

I know this isn't the 'best' way to measure- but it what I did: 50 rounds at the same POA at 7 yards.

Results? All 50 in an area that I could easily cover with the palm of one hand- and a target/cardboard backing that had a single fist-sized hole 'punched' out of the dead center.

I forget the target I was using, but it was in the X and the 10 ring, with about 4 rounds in the 9 ring. Total width of outside of circle on target was probably 24-28".

No pictures- but I was VERY pleased because of my sight and the fact that I just haven't had good luck with Sig .45s in the past.

My 2002 P225 now has a 2012 P220 big/little brother!

Hmmm.

Maybe I should buy a double-stack 9mm next- and then be done.

[.40 isn't my favorite]

Sigs and Non-Sigs: I enjoy having options!

I wear bifocal or progressives for regular vision. For shooting, I have a special pair made up where the focus is at front sight distance. Some prefer only the dominant eye focused on the front sight, and the other at regular distance. I prefer both eyes corrected to front sight distance. My diopter correction is not too great, so with focus on the front sight, the targets are still fairly clear, if a little fuzzy. I have a small bifocal window in the bottom for scoring purposes. Your optometrist can do this for you, or you can learn online how to read a prescription and order them yourself from somewhere like Zennioptical.

It so happens that the shooting prescription is also ideal for computer glasses, as I sit about the same distance from my monitor as the front sight distance. Again, a bifocal window for dealing with papers on my desk.

Thanks for these tips!
