I purchased an le trade in P220R. The label says “Special Configuration”. What does this mean ? Can it be as simple as three mags. The pistols has dead night sights and the three mags, but appears to have no other special things I can see. Thanks ! Skill on Demand Manos Arriba !

A picture would definitely help here. Unless I’m mistaken, SP pistols are usually a non-catalogue frame/slide combination.

A Special Configuration SIG, with the "SP" on the Part Number, means different things on different models, but it boils down to a gun that is not typically catalogued. As you said, it could be just a 3-mag packaged gun. Or, it could be a special ordered gun coming from SIG Germany (when they still operated), like the stainless frame P228 or the very last batch of the M11B. Q

Looks like a regular railed frame Nitron milled slide P220 outfitted with the "slim grips". Could be just that plus the 3 mags. On the other hand, those grips could have been swapped in aftermarket. You might want to contact SIG CS to see if they can shed some light on the gun. Q

Those are the slim grips. I bought a LE trade-in P220 that has them. They're kinda rare and I like them a lot.

I have special configuration P220 I purchased used a few years ago. It was an LE trade in DAK. Sig CS told me the special configuration was the DAK trigger. * * * * * * * High capacity is not an acceptable substitute for good marksmanship.

Lost, but making good time |
![]() ![]() I've got on from 2011 that was supposedly part of a Coast Guard contract overrun. I always found it interesting that the box end label has "P220R3" since this gun has a non-railed frame. It's a DAK, and it came with three mags, night sights, and aluminum Sig branded grips. IIRC, there were a few threads about these P220"s when they hit the market. Thanks to the Forum's "Mississippigal" I was able to find a total of three of these, one for me and one each of my two sons. Bye for a while, guard the fort. - My Dad
