I've been shopping for a 1911 and it seems like 1911's are getting harder and harder to find. Is it me, or are they getting scarce?

Not so in my part of the world. The 5 shops within 20 minutes of me all have 1911's in stock from multiple manufacturer's.

My local shop actually had a decent selection the other day. I ended up buying a Springfield 9mm 4.25 Ronin. They had, 9, 45 and 10mm of several manufacturers.

1911s "scarce"? The 2 don't belong in the same sentence.

For real, though - I was thinking that the CA “approved list” excluded some 1911 models / makers that might otherwise be more common in other parts of the country.

When I was shopping for a 1911/2011 replacement for my G34 at the beginning of the month I found plenty of 1911's.

The smallest of the three shops said they were in high demand and harder to get.

The roster is likely the biggest part of the problem. We can still get a lot of Springfield, Sig, and Kimber 1911’s. However the ones on the CA roster are all models that date back several years. Can’t wait to retire and leave.

They are not at all scarce if you live in a free state. LGSes around me have everything from Phillipines & Turkish-made 1911s for $400 and change to $3K+ boutique brands.

Seems that 1911's are about as rare as sand in the desert.

It may depend on the price range for 1911's. Lot's of the high end stuff isn't as available as it once was.. Could be lots of reasons.. Perhaps the stock market!

The big gun shop here has one entire display case devoted to nothing but 1911s made by various makers. Seems like everybody makes 'em these days. Roll Eyes
