My wife and I are getting ready to [re]-take the OpSpec Tactical Practical Fundamentals course, this time taught by our old friend Bruce Gray.
My wife has always had problems racking a slide, so years ago we got her a S&W 520 revolver, had Randy Lee of Apex tune it, modify it for moon clips, and install his action taking DA trigger pull down to about 5 pounds.
I have been trying to get moon clips for this 7-shot, .38 special revolver, and was having a terrible time getting them in by hand or using an older TK mooner tool.

I found a post by Scott Folk on Apextactical.com about the BMT mooner/demooner tool, and in desperation ordered one. It arrived tonight, and I just tried it--expecting to break a sweat and mutter some unprintable words. But no! It moons and demoons sooo easily, even my wife will be able to do it.

No need for special moon clips, plastic moon clips, or having my wife shoot my 627 PC 8-shot in 9 mm where I know the clips work.

Here's the link to their website: Link: BMTequipped.com

I like it so much, I'm going to order one for my 627 PC.

Looks good! I have the TK Custom mooner and demooner for my 327 PC. I have had it for quite a while and it meets my needs. If I didn't already have it I would be very interested in the BMT.

Nice 625!
I’m thinking about a 9 mm stubby like the PC 986.

I have the Dillon Precision demooning tool and like it but that tool looks like it would work good as well.

I'd wanted a 625 for a long time and finally got one in Oct, 2020 and the demooning tool makes a huge difference!

For my Ruger GP-100 10mm, I use the TK Custom mooner and de-mooner as well as their moon clips. It's been years since I shot a 625, so I forget which mooner I had then. In a pinch, you can just spread out the rounds on a flat surface and snap them up using the moon clip in your hand. Just press the clip down into the extraction groove. I goes pretty smoothly, but care is advised to avoid bending the moon clip.

When in doubt, mumble

Whenever this comes up I chuckle. It’s kind of like the thread on speedloaders. Some guys just refuse to acknowledge things that are better. They prefer what they are used to.

The BMT mooner is easily and unquestionably the best moon clip device out there. Mine is the newer style that is round without the “handle” that feeds the rounds. Looks like a cylinder, spin it once to load, flip it over to other side and spin once to unload. (Like in your video but 8 shot)

Yes, you can do some by hand. Yes, you can use pliers. Yes the TK tool works. None if which changes the fact that the BMT is easy, fast, and zero chance of bending a moon clip which once that happens it s dead. Bending it back into shape rarely works reliably.

It’s spendy. That is the only drawback. Use it once though and you will toss everything else into your parts bin. It is also clever. It is beyond simple. There really is nothing to break or go out of alignment.

It is simply the best.

(Did you ever get that mag or do I have to jump on the post office? Nowadays everything is so slow it’s hard to tell. Lol)

Thank you. I’ve heard repeatedly about this tool and need to pick one up if I’m going to keep working with my 625 Mountain Gun like I do. I have a reasonable de-mooner tool but the loading of the clips has been challenging at times haha...

I own two: 9mm and 45ACP. They may be better than sliced bread. Highly recommended.

BT Mooners are the best! I have different moon clip loaders & unloaders but BT are just easier. It makes shooting my 625-3 much more enjoyable.

How’s this for customer service?
I sent BMT a copy of what I posted here. Separately, on the website, I ordered another BMT loader for my 627 PC, and ordered the .38 Super version, although I shoot almost exclusively 9 mm with it.

This was the e-mail I got today:
quote:
Stan, thank you for the kind words. We do our best to produce a quality product.

I see you have ordered the N-Super. This is designed for the 8 shot 38 Super cartridge. Some have used it for 9mm, but I believe it is too cumbersome. If you were planning on using it for the 9mm 8shot consider the N9-8 BMT Mooner instead.
Let me know what you think,

My take away from this thread is I need some new grips for my 625-3.

Those maple combats look amazing.
