New to me 1998-99 P226 - questions on what to replace
Picked up a 1998-99 P226 in 40SW, LEO turn in. Frame was pretty scuffed up, barrel was new as was recoil spring. Slide surface has some 'copper color' areas but no pitting or gouges. Cleaned, lubed and reassembled. Shot 100 unremarkable shots at ~7 yards. Great accuracy, no operational issues. Fixed the gouges with flat black automotive paint - hard to see where the repair was done.

Given the age - and probable use, what 'parts/springs/etc should I look to replace?

I can’t find the link at the moment but Sig offers a service where they strip it, clean it, replace a bunch of parts, and install new night sights.
Cost is not much more than night sights alone.

Scroll down and look for the "SIG SERVICE PACKAGE".

How did you come into it? If it has a new barrel and a new recoil spring, is it possible that the gun has already been gone through by Sig and then sold on the secondary market? They used to sell used police trade ins in a red box, and might still...

Interesting point. Previous owner said he received it in a cardboard box, might been a CPO. Sig offers an $89 program to disassemble unit, replace worn parts and return the 'workings' to factory new. I'll probably do that.

The downside about shipping back to Sig is the cost of shipping both ways-could be easily another $100 added to the cost of the Sig work, at least for me it was. For me, as long as you don't see any serious wear to any of the parts, I would just get a spring replacement kit and do it yourself. It is actually not hard to do, gets you better acquainted with the firearm and saves you money and time with shipping and returns.

The "arch" style trigger bar spring, if that was still being used at the time or if it hasn't been replaced with the coil spring, is prone to breaking.

Talked to a Sig rep and they don't do certified red box sales anymore. They just offer those guns to internal employee now. What a shame, I was looking forward to a factory re-conditioned P229

Sig service package is ideal. New night sites!

CCR refinish afterwards? You’d have a bodaciously beautiful 9mm.
