Hi all. I came into a 2001 Sig P226 in .357 sig. The factory could only tell me it was made in 2001. They had no info on where it went. The thing is, its the N.H. state seal on top of the slide, just under the rear sights in gold. There is also a serial number on the right side of the frame. I will try to attach the photos I took. Had a hard time. Its 405-399216 also in gold. Any info would be appreciated. Dave

Congrats on your new P226! Haven't seen one with the seal of Hampshire. Thinking the serial would start with a U and have a number somewhere in the 600000s? Maybe the 405 number is for something else? Sounds like you found an interesting P226 either way. Let us know what you find out about it.

Sweet deal for sure and yes we would like to see it. If you don't know how to do that here... email me a picture or two and I will post it. My email address is in my profile. My Native American Name: "Runs with Scissors"

Probably one of those Commemorative Engraving deals that SIG did for the particular group, whatever that group was. Q

I do not know why a NH seal is on the gun However a 405-xxxxxx inventory number would be a Texas DPS thing That would also go along with 357SIG chambering Here is my DPS P239 ![]() ------------------------------------------------------------------ NRA Benefactor . . . I was shooting my dads firearms with him long before I had a drivers license. After becoming a LEO, I was issued a S&W 5903. I can say nothing bad about that gun. I kept qualifying at 100 percent. Until the firearms Sgt. advised me to throw at least one round, so if I got into a real firefight, I couldn't be raked over the coals if something went wrong. But, I proudly state that the first handgun I bought is a Sig P-220, which I customized with wood grips and still have today.

Or it could be a one off aftermarket engraving. Maybe someone got a retirement gift or something. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. Are there any other markings, say internally or in the mag well?
Yeah, those are very not good out of focus photos, and not much use for helping to establish provenance. Best I can make out is the Hamp part of Hampshire.

The TX DPS had TXDPS serial numbers, were SAO, and had DE stamped frames. I think from these photos that's not the case. Maybe 405 was a range given to a group of other commemorative special orders. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

That’s the Old Man of the Mountains, not the official state seal. The seal depicts the frigate Raleigh.

It looks like the U xxx xxx serial number is on the frame in the usual location, but my eyes can’t make it out.

The emblem looks like the Old Man of the mountain. NH fish and game maybe?

Some of the aftermarket engraving now is first class. We did a P239 for one of our retirees with the same seal as our 226's came with from Sig and you can't tell the difference. What, me worry?

It appers to be a surplused NH Fish & Game pistol as they were reported to use Sig Sauer .357's. "...dispatching injured wildlife with his .357 Sig Sauer handgun. https://www.vnews.com/Archives...Officer-ns-vn-121215

I tried to get him to send me a better picture but not to fault him, some folks just can't seem to manage it. I suggested just backing up and I could crop and enlarge but it did not happen. My Native American Name: "Runs with Scissors"

Pic is rough but it is definitely the Old Man On The Mountain. Can also see "Live Free Or Die".
