Hello, new member here. I have a P49 on layaway that I'm going to pay off in a few weeks, in the meantime I'm looking for a holster made in the same year or soon afterwards. I've only been able to find one source for SIG P49/P210 serial numbers and they show a wide gap between 1950 and 1969; A 104214 - 1950/51 A 166501 - 1969 My serial number is; A 1066xx, so I would assume it was shipped in either 1950 or 51. But does anyone have a more detailed breakdown of the serial numbers shipped between 1950 and 1969?

There is no official information about deliveries to the Swiss Army. Existing lists circulating on the internet are mainly from the books of Vetter, Armbruster and Döbeli and were collected by enthusiasts. SIG itself has never published serial number lists. The pistol mentioned belongs to the second batch delivered to the Swiss Army in 1950/51. Except for the markings and serial number pattern, it is identical to the commercial P210-1 of that period.

Thanks OTD! I noticed that the SIG P210 Wiki page shows an example of a P49 from the Morges military museum with a serial number that's only 233 higher than mine and it also mentions that it's a second batch. Being a big history buff, I can't get enough info on this Was every year's shipments broken down by batches and did a batch represent so many months? How many 'batches' were there in a year? Every original holster I've seen online is dated, I suppose if I find a P49 on sale (or hear about someone who owns one) with a serial number close to mine that came with its holster, that would be a fairly reliable way to determine whether it was delivered in 50' or 51'?

As I said, information about deliveries or production lot sizes for the Swiss Army is not published. Detailed information is only available for the first model which was divided into three batches. From the transitional model to the last pistol of the second model, only the serial numbers are known, but no shipping dates nor lot sizes. 1st. Model 1st delivery, Sep. 1949 - P100001 - P103200 1st. Model 2nd delivery, End of 1950 beginning of 1951. P 103201 - P107210 1st Model 3rd delivery, dates unknown, P 107211 - P109710 Transition Model - dates unknown - P1009710 - ca.P101200 2nd Model - until 1975 - ca. P101200 - P213110 Pistol holster not purchased from SIG. The holsters were supplied directly to the Army by saddlery shops. They are marked with the name of the shop and the year of manufacture. The combination of pistols and holsters took place in non-centralized armories prior to issue. Conclusions about the legitimacy of a combination of pistol and holster can therefore not be drawn based on the delivery dates of pistol and holsters.
