Your KB (1991) P228 was made, assembled and proofed in Germany. Slide says "Made In W. Germany".

THANK YOU very much my Friend, I appreciate your taking the time to confirm that fact for me ! Shortly after Posting my Query, I thought that I had recalled quite a bit of newly added information had been posted to this particular Thread. Soooo, just a minute's worth of reading pretty much told me what I had been seeking, yet as I always tend to do, I prefer to have things confirmed by someone more knowledgeable than myself. Yup, I too was a intense Sig P Series fan during my younger days, & carried one both on & off duty for years. Our last duty weapon when I Retired was the P.226R-DAK .40, & I truly fell in love with it. But, on my time I usually gravitated to my P.228, which as you know is an older example. THANKS AGAIN !!

Good Morning Folks, I would like to confirm that my old P.228 9x19 is in fact of all West German manufacture ? Honestly, I haven't actually handled it in a few years now, as since Retiring I tend to gravitate towards somewhat smaller handguns for everyday carry. It is Serial # B1460XX KB Proofed. IIRC, it was manufactured in 1991, if I recall. ( Please correct me if I'm wrong ! ) I would simply check all the markings for myself, but it's currently in storage, along with my other Sig's, an P.220 .45 ACP, P.226R-DAK .357 / .40, & P.229R-DAK .357 / .40. If anyone wishes their Serial #'s & Date Codes, please just advise. If any could confirm that my P.228 is of 'all' German manufacture, I'd be much appreciative. THANK YOU !

Although your slide is marked "Made in W Germany", as 12131 stated your 1991 P228 was technically made in Germany because reunification took place in 1990.

THANK YOU 'wigsigs', you are indeed correct ! It may be a technicality, but fact is fact. Either way though, it was of all German manufacture for all practical purposes. Even I have numerous other assorted handguns to utilize, there's just 'something' about that P.228 that keeps it from going anywhere. And, with the Factory Short Trigger installed, it's 'almost' as comfortable as my old P.225.

I just acquired my second Nickel slide 228. It came with correspondence between Sig and prior owner (and forum member) confirming it left factory w/Ni slide. However it differs from the Ni slide gun I already own (not factory confirmed) in that the takedown lever, trigger, hammer, grip screws are Ni as well. Was that customary? and conversely, did some factory Ni guns plate just the slide? They are considerably far apart in serial number as you see...

^^^ ^^^ The answer is under item H in the original post. Wink
Up until '94, they only plated the slide, for a 2-tone gun. From '94 on, they also plated the controls.

Btw, did you also get that SIG confirmatory email from the seller, along with that KF gun?

Thank you Oriental, that clears things up! I have not studied the thread as closely as I thought. And yes I have correspondence from Sig on the new gun (obtained by a prior owner who is forum member, and conveyed by the seller with the box and papers)

Hey Q,

Would have joined much sooner, had I known about your Nickel Torture Test.

Well done!

Okay, looking to the experts on 228s. I have an AJU P228 with a manufacture date of August 2012. I bought it new in 2012, after retiring from the army. The pistol only accepts 228 mags and came in black case. No proof marks, but slide is stamped made in Germany. I’m curious how many were made and how rare these may be. Reason being is that my agency has recently permitted POW carry on duty, and I am considering carrying this as a daily duty weapon. I have heard that many do not consider these a true 228; does that diminish the value? Any thoughts/info is appreciated.
