Does anyone have a STI pistol and what is their opinion?
Thanks

I have a DVC 3 Gun that I absolutely love. Have owned others. All were great for me. It's a good product but not truly a custom gun. They seem to be making a lot of changes to their lineup lately. That all said, I would buy another one. The DVC 3G is an amazing shooter.

Former co-worker had 2. I believe both were STI Escort in 9mm & 45ACP.
Both really soft shooters & pretty accurate for their small size.

I have shot an STI DVC either tactical or 3 gun cannot remember. All I can remember was IT WAS GLORIOUS. One hole shooter. Not my personal shooting cup of tea but holy hell was it enjoyable to play with.

I saw and fondled a particular STI 9mm 1911 at an LGS a couple months ago. Never did find it on-line. Later found it had been a special version from some show or something, and reduced for clearance. It was gone by the time I had a bit of money to spend, or I think I would've bought it.

Have a DS HOST 4.0 that I posted a recent thread about. They make good stuff, but be aware that 2011s are tuner's guns, particularly in the magazine department. There may be some tinkering required for them to run reliably.

I have a 9mm STI Shadow 1911 & a 45ACP STI VIP. Both are excellent and part of my EDC rotation.

I've owned a bunch of 1911 type pistols, but my STI Trojan has been a favorite for some years now. Excellent fit of barrel/slide/frame, clean factory trigger, and boring reliability with factory or reloaded ammo. Wish some of my more expensive pistols had been put together so well...

I recently bought a STI Costa comp in 9mm and it’s a piece of art. I have about 500 rds through it using 5 different mags and so far no issues. The Costa comp has the island sight so it’s easy to keep on target. This is my one and only gun in the 1911 style platform and after shooting it, I have to force myself to shoot other guns. It’s so smooth and the recoil is about like a 22 magnum. The 20rd mags seems to run out fast
Been looking hard at the DVC 3gun.

Their guns are very well built and quality stuff.
Their customer service is ran by assholes that blow hard ones.

I bought a STI Ranger 2 in .40 a few years ago. Wasn't a fan of .40 but in a heavy 1911, it is outstanding.

STI just had an open shoot at my local range. I would contact them and see if they are going to be in your area. I have a card from the STI rep if you want a direct contact. I own the STI DVC Ltd, IMHO it's one of the best firearms I own albeit it's pricey. I shot the Staccato, the pistol shot great, low recoil, no mag issues like the first batch and no failures. I wish I recalled what the STI rep told me when I asked him about why the cost is less than 1/2 of the DVC carry.

STI is kind of a mixed bag these days, imo. Most of their guns are in the semi custom to custom gun price range and the quality is just not there... basically following the Detroit approach of send it out as is and fix it under warranty if we have to. That being said, older STI's are phenomenal guns. I currently own a number of guns built on STI frames, both by STI and by custom smiths...
I own an older sti Tactical 4.0, which is basically the same gun as the double stack staccatto. it is probably one of my favorite guns that I have ever owned and the only STI I have ever had to send back for warranty work. The fixed sights on it were a foot plus low at 10 yards. I think the barrel was misfit as well. I sent it back to them and some months later they told me the dove tail was cut wrong. They denied that anything was wrong with the barrel. Instead of fitting a new slide, they made a new rear sight. Guess what? It was still off when I finally got it back. So I fit a spare SVI slide to the frame and sent my stock STI top end off to a custom smith to be milled for a deltapoint.

I've got an STI Tactical 5.0 that's about 12 years old or so. It's phenomenal! Smoothest shooting .45 I have, equals a G21 in capacity, fantastic 1911 trigger and it's 100% reliable. I took off the mag well, stuffed it in a duty holster and wore it for many years. The only downside is the wickedly expensive magazines...

The price of mags has gone down dramatically.
Over the years I have had 8 STIs and all were great shooters and top notch in quality.

I shoot with a group of maybe a half dozen guys and there are probaby 4 maybe 5 STIs in the group. Quality 1911's for sure. Sadly, they are no longer in production in 1911.

Just put 500 quick rounds through my new Staccato P. 400 rounds Winchester 124gr FMJ, 50 rounds 147gr Ranger T series and 50 rounds of 127gr +P+ T series. No hiccups. Shoots great. Gotta go to work now.
- Had coworkers shoot another 200 rounds through it. So far so good. Everyone’s loving it.
