Do I need a Sig P225/P6
I favor the classic Sigs and have a few P220s, P229s, P226s, and a P239 in both 9mm and 40SW. I routinely carry a P229 (40SW) and occasionally carry the P239 (40SW). Local 'other' forum member has a P225/P6 for sale - safe queen with super low mileage at what I think is a fair price ($600 w/5 Sig mags).

Soooooo, is it s 'need' or a 'want' situation. Not sure if I'd carry it but I'm intrigued.

Although I rarely shoot mine, they are excellent pistols that are still a solid choice for personal protection. I keep mine for mostly sentimental reasons. A throwback to simpler ( and maybe better) times.

No, you don’t need it.

I mean, it’s been the logo gun here for at least a decade for a reason Big Grin

I don’t carry my P225 but it’s one of my favorite guns to shoot.

There was a time I was really into classic Sig pistols, P226, P228, P229, P225, P220.
At one time or another I owned them all.
I still am into them, although the only 2 Sigs I now own are 2 WG P226s.

I owned a P225 for a few years.
That was back when I sold my least favorite firearm to purchase one that I wanted.
I liked it being a classic Sig, but I ultimately sold it to purchase something else.

If you want one just to add to your collection, I'd say go for it.
If you want one for carry or for HD, I'd say your P239 already serves that purpose.

Just for giggles I did carry a Gen 1 P239 SAS for a few years, refinished by CCR.
But my Glocks took it's place..

Yes!

The mags themselves are speedy.

I bought one from a fellow Forum member, sent it to Sig for the SSP and still have not shot it.

It is a classic Sig through and through.

You almost have enough Sigs when you have one in every caliber.

Hey look! A P250...

That's a pretty good price, especially with 5 mags. Those things go for $100 apiece these days.

The P225 isn't terribly practical compared to a double-stack like a P228 or P229, but it sure does feel good in the hand.

A P6 was the second handgun I owned, and I carried it for several years. Now that I have my P228 and P229s I don't see ever going back to it for carry, but I'm not getting rid of it, either. I still take it out and shoot it occasionally.

So do you need it? No. But it's certainly not a bad thing to want.

My German 225 is my favorite Sig. And the mags make the deal. I would ship it off to Sig for a refresh, which includes new night sights.

On its own? No. The P228 made it kinda pointless. The P229 more so.

But to round out your nice collection a bit? Sure. And then you’ll have to get the HK and Walther competition. Though the P7 got stupid expensive and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a P5 for sale.

Oh boy, OP. This is gonna get expensive real quick!

I carry a P6 dated 11/80 every day. It fits my hand so well and is so reliable. Do you need it? No. But it is a great gun to add to your collection.

I’d say go for it. The main thing that’s special about the P225/P6 is its ergonomic qualities. It has the best grip angle, grip comfort, and the lowest bore axis. Obviously, it isn’t vastly different from the others, but it’s noticeable and it’s the only one that’s like that. Strictly from a shooting experience standpoint, it really is the best P220-series pistol IMO. However, I’ve only ever shot the P225. I haven’t brought myself to buy my own yet because for all its excellence, it is “just another P220-series pistol” and from a practical standpoint, I view it as a P228 with hard-to-find, expensive mags (just like I view the 9mm P220 as a P226 with hard-to-find, expensive mags).

I’ve bought and sold a few guns. The only one I regret selling at this point was my late 70s, early 80s P6 I bought when they flooded the market for about $325. Felt amazing, loved absolutely everything about it other than the DA pull. Pretty heavy, but with practice wasn’t bad. I often look for P6/P225s for a reasonable price cuz it’s such a sweet little shooter, just about perfect size. In all honesty, if I could get a modern P225, it’d be my carry piece. I practice the SIG DA often on my P226 and P229 and wish I could get a 225 or a 224 to take over by daily carry.

Do you need it? My answer to that 100% of the time if you have a carry piece is no, you don’t. Should you get it? If you haven’t had a 225/P6 and you’re curious, yes get it!!

I would buy that P6 in a heart beat.

I found this several years ago. The prior owner refinished it and I added the grips from Grips for “U” and the standard sights. It came with 2 ProMag magazines that work great and 3 OEM magazines marked “P6” on them.

I then found 3 new P225 magazines from a police supply shop. They said they had them for years and did not know what gun they fit. I knew that they probably stocked them in 1989 when Michigan State Police issued P225’s to their plain clothes detectives.

The feed ramp is original and still feeds all the 9mm hp I feed it.

I had a P225 and it served as a primary carry gun for at least a year until it was replaced by an HK P2000. It was a great gun that fit my hand well but was eventually sold off b/c I just never got it out to the range. At the time I had multiples of many of the classic P series Sigs with the only one I’ve never owned being the P239. I still have a P228 (first gun), P230, P220, P229, and P226 (X2). All of them are ST models except the P228 and an MK25.

I’d say the P239 does everything the P225 equally well, so you don’t need a P225. If you want one and can afford it then I say get one. I’ve either given away or sold off many of the guns that didn’t interest my kids or I didn’t shoot regularly. I still have more guns than I can realistically shoot and I enjoy training/shooting more than I enjoy collecting these days.

The P239 platform is great.

The one with G-10 grips is a .357 and/or .40 cal. The one with Nill wood grips is a Custom Shop, SAS, DA/SA, 9mm.

I still think everybody should have a nice P225/P6 Smile.
