I'm fairly new to HK firearms. Once owned a USP 40 compact with the traditional da/sa trigger. Really liked the pistol but not the 40 round and the trigger was kinda blah. I traded that pistol off a few years back.
Fast forward to yesterday. I was was browsing my local classifieds and saw a this USP 9c with original box and 4 mags. I jumped on it. I thought it was a traditional da/sa since it has ambi safety but when I got home and got some time dry firing it wasn't what I expected. When the slide is racked its got a very nice light trigger and short reset. If I let the trigger fully reset, the hammer drops.
I checked the box and it has a faint etching that says PISTOLE USP 9x19COMP LEM BEID.S

Everything I see online shows LEM pistols without safety levers.

What is this thing? I haven't gotten to the range yet but I'm really liking the trigger.

You got one with the LEM trigger, HK's version of double action only. Someone put in the safety lever.

Thanks 12131. A safety on this seems unnecessary. Is it difficult to remove them or should I send it off to have them removed?

I always assumed the LEM trigger was HKs version of sigs DAK which I hated. It's a pleasant surprise. Wish I tried one years ago.

There are P30s with LEM trigger with safety lever from factory, but I'm unaware of the USP line equipped as such.

Unless it was some kind of contract overrun I am sure the safety lever and detent were added by a user. Changing out various HK detent/levers/settings isn’t per se HARD but it’s also not a simple plug and play thing either. Do a YouTube search to get a feel for it.

My guess is you may need a different detent plate to delete the safety as well but I am not 100% sure at this hot second.

Were there? I know there were V3’s (DA/SA) guns shipped with the safety but didn’t think they did the LEM with them.

There are so many friggin configurations HK pistols can come in or can be converted to it’s hard to keep up.

I'm sure I can live with a safety for now. I wait to get some rounds down range before I worry about it.

HKPRO's thread. Said there were 500 made.

according to my USP variant list this is a standard option. left or right side. No idea how common it is. But of course on an HK the trigger variants can all be swapped with the right parts and some talent or experience.

I have H&Ks in standard & ‘lite’ LEM, either will do, usually standard LEM for carry.

Depending on how you use it, maybe leave it be for a while, safety off if desired. All mine are just LEM, no safety.

I did take two guns from DA/SA to lite LEM, there are detailed videos on the process.

Just a reminder, LEM is mostly a trigger for carry or duty, not specialized as a wonder trigger for the range.

Yup, I'm going to leave it alone for now. Not sure what you mean by "LEM is mostly a trigger for carry or duty, not specialized as a wonder trigger for the range".
Since I don't know a better way to get familiar with a carry gun and its trigger, it's going to the range.

Me neither, nothing wrong with LEM.
I have one of my USP's 45-FS in LEM and it is just fine (for any purpose) albeit I prefer the standard trigger better.

I’m a big LEM guy. I can’t speak for him but I suspect he is saying it is optimal for carry due to its inherent safety, ability to ride the hammer as you holster, and general pretty good triggery-ness. It is not the best trigger for range play, ie absolute 1911 like trigger pull.

Lots of people can’t get used to LEM either. I was that way for quite awhile before I warmed up to it. If you are going to stay LEM I highly suggest you check out Grayguns flat trigger. It was born for LEM guns, it is perfect on them.

I personally have come around to thinking it is the best overall for everything trigger system out there.

I would absolutely find the parts and remove the safety though. The last decent plate I bought (safety/decocker to decocker only) cost 7 bucks. And took 2 minutes to install. A safety on a LEM is overkill to my mind. Like carrying a Beretta 92 on safe.

I swapped out my standard DA/SA (with safety/decocker) HK .45 and .40 S&W pistols with LEMs back in the day my department issued/approved H&K USPs. The LEM trigger systems were about as good as could be expected for any H&K duty pistol. If yours has the added benefit of allowing the user to carry the pistol with a safety engaged, it sounds like a pretty good setup. I've carried "Condition One" using Sigs (P220 SAOsj, P938s, P238s), and various 1911 type pistols for decades. Manual safeties that work in this manner aren't really a detriment to a reasonably fast draw and do offer some additional security if the carrier wants it.

Just saying the LEM will never compete with a great 1911 trigger at the range, especially with a new to LEM shooter.

I’ve seen shooters complain about just that. I’m not bothered, I appreciate LEM for use as it was designed.

Gotcha. No it's not a 1911 trigger but I imagine it's a big improvement over the standard da/sa trigger.

I have a P30SK LEM Lite and I like it better than any of the other HK variants. OP's USP LEM with a safety is one I have never heard of before this.
