Should I be worried about paint coming off of the rail of my P220?
I have been wondering. My old tried and true P220. The rail of the frame, toward the back, has had the some paint come off. Slide to frame is still tight and I've had no problems. I just see the paint that has come off and now has some silver places. Should I worry about this? When this was my issued gun for several years we were always taught to just use oil when cleaning and lubricating. I have been using grease the last couple of years as its my night stand gun.

Totally normal wear and tear. Keep it well lubed and continue using it without worry.

I'm confused, what P220 has paint on the frame?

Assuming the OP was referring to the anodize.

Yeah, no confusion here.

Yes, I did mean the anodize. Sorry, hrcjon, for my incorrect terminology.

Thank you, flesh and Q for interpreting for me!

In the years that I have been hanging around here, the black "paint" has been referred to as the topcoat. I thought the anodizing was colorless. But what do I know.

Over the years many P220s and other models were "painted"

The first example of that was the K-coat that was offered in the 1980s, If I recall correctly it was a sprayed on polymer finish. It was very glossy and very corrosion resistant as long as you did not chip or scratch the finish

In more modern years the SIGS have been coated with Infalon (sp?). this was much tougher than K-coat and offered in many color schemes,

The only Infalon SIGs that I currently own are some X-6 auto loaders

And most recently we have the Legion series that appear to be Ceracoated even though the early ones were PVD

I have a K Kote one and I swear the frame is not coated, I will have to drag it out of the safe and take a look. Same for a nitron slide one, the frame is anodized. I had not really considered a legion in the discussion as the OP said "old". I get the OP was most probably talking anodizing and 12131 had the correct answer, but if there was a painted frame that might actually be a different set of issues.

My experience is that all classic Sigs do wear the anodizing. First to go is the upper flat surfaces on each side of the hammer. If still tight, don't worry about it.

Thank you, everyone. Sounds like I’m good to go.
