So I had a chance to handle a couple of pistols the other day.

VP9c (Compact)
I never really gelled with my full size VP9 but I have to say I really liked the compact. It shot lights out and felt completely different then my early VP9 full size did. I have to say I very much enjoyed the compact and was shocked how different the shooting experience was. It was different enough that if you, like me, didn't quite gel with the full size, don't let that stop you from trying the compact.

SIG P365
I was not able to shoot this but all I have to say is WOW!!. Pictures and video do NOT do this thing justice as far as how small it is. The magazine looks like it must use magic to hold that much ammo. I mean 35mm film canisters seem big compared to that itty bitty magazine. The P365 makes my Walther PPS M1 seem damn near like a behemoth. I haven't picked up a gun that made shocked me this much since the Scandium framed Smith's came out and I first held one of those paper weight snubbies.

If SIG has worked out or can work out its QC and durability problems they have a paradigm shift to be sure. If I were them I would lock down my QC, get as much durability data as I could making whatever design tweaks are needed and then release a mid and full size along with the 365. I don't know if the magazine design would scale perfectly but I suspect they could basically make a "single stack Glock 19" that held 15-17 rounds and a "single stack Glock 17" that held 17-19 rounds.

I am not in the market for the 365 and its teething problems have bugged me because it seems par for current SIG's QC/beta testing course but I can totally see why folks are taking a chance on this thing. It frankly amazing and I really hope it turns out to be a rock solid game changer.

You really have to shoot the 365 to fully appreciate it. I shot my PPS M2 better than I thought I ever would. Damn 365 had me selling the Walther. I’d love to have it in the size of the PPS or shield with the increase in ammo that would go along with it. Just a bit small for me to get a great grip on it.

I'm not sure why people think there's magic happening in the P365 magazine. How is a 1.5 stack going to fit more ammo than a double stack of the same size? A G19 sized P365 would probably hold 12-13 rounds, G17 size maybe 14. Not saying that what they have isn't impressive. But it's basically this:

I actually wonder how well it would translate to a longer mag. Would the additional spring pressure and the cartridge alignment cause too much outward pressure? I dunno, just wondering out loud.

That was my impression when I first saw one. I'd heard that the size was surprising, and it was. I immediately called around and found a range that had one I drove over and shot it. I was impressed enough that I put money down and ordered one. A couple of days later, across town, I popped into a shop and they had one; I bought it, and thus ended up with two.

I turned around with the one I'd bought and took it to the range and put about five hundred rounds through it, without issue. Thereafter, each time I went to the range, I saved 50 or 100 rounds for the 365, occasionally dumping a couple hundred through it.

It's not uncomfortable to shoot, even after a while; the ergonomics are good, even with the tiny size.

That was my impression as well. Form-wise it makes for a devilishly slick deep carry weapon.

Comparison between my Walther PPS M2 (with seven round magazine) and newly acquired Sig P365 (with the standard ten round magazine). I really liked the Walther because of it slim and easily concealed profile, excellent ergonomics, great trigger and reliability, but I've got to give Sig kudos for the P365. The trigger is actually better than my Walther's and as to overall size (with a notably increased magazine capacity)...

I love my original version PPS and can shoot it very well. The P365 is too small for me and as such I can not shoot it near as well as I can the PPS but it is good to have choices. If I feel I need more rounds on me I would rather have my Glock 19 with 15 rounds anyway.

Seems like I've read a lot of bad about the 365.

How does it compare size-wise to the 250/320 Subcompact?
