g34 Field strip help (gen3)
So I cannot remove the slide using std. glock field stripping procedure. The slide loosens but stops and feels like it is being held by the recoil spring.

I don't know if the pistol has any modifications that would require others steps.

Thoughts?

Thanks guys

Also, after clearing the pistol. Dry firing the slide is loose on the frame. Something seems funky?

Function is otherwise normal? You've fired this gun and it cycles?

I have had the recoil spring get offset on reassembly that required a little fast force on the slide to get the recoil spring kicked over and the slide off.

Have not fired it. So here is how this unit is currently allows the slide to be be removed. Clear the unit cock it. Remove the mag. Release the slide forward. Dry fire. Grab the slide a pull back the 1/10". While holding it pull the two tabs down simultaneously. The slide will move forward slightly but will not come off.
So what I am calling the extra step is to pull the slide back again far enough to cock the trigger. Dry fire again. Then pull the two tabs again. the slide comes right off. You do not need to pull the slide back while holding the two tabs down on the second process. Works every time. But that seems weird, does it not?
On a bit of a side note there are two very small wear spots on the rail right where the two tabs are located. That is a bit of a head scratcher.

Is the recoil spring factory? maybe post a pic of the field stripped gun.

I am guessing it is not as it looks to be a stainless steel recoil spring.
I do not have a hosting site for pix unfortunately.

I’ve seen some new Glocks need a little more effort to remove the slide like they have a hitch or wear Point that needs to be overcome but this usually smooths out in a few boxes of ammo.

I've had my fair share of ornery Glocks recently. Or I'm just getting old. Frown

A few days ago I was in the middle of doing the 'G30S' demonstration using a G30SF frame and G36 slide with the two guns out of the display case, and the darn G36 slide just would not come off its frame. It took several tries, and one very forceful yank to get the slide assembly off. Both guns are factory new but upon inspection extremely dry with very little anti-seize to boot. Likely the RSA wasn't in its correct position when the gun was initially assembled is my guess was the cause. After I reassembled the gun making sure the recoil spring was seated correctly, the slide came off easily.

That Austrian assembler must've been pretty hungry and upset after missing lunch that day...

Thanks guys, this is not a new gun. Have little history on it.

One thing I really appreciate here is the willingness to offer help or knowledge on previous difficulties no matter the brand. Most folks here seem to have a wide enough range of experience to know that they ALL have had issues and I can’t remember the last time I saw somebody get defensive here because somebody has an issue with “THEIR BRAND” and “THEIR BRAND” is perfect.

I know we didn’t exactly help old rugged cross as of yet but nobody jumped up and down and blamed him or called him a liar because Glocks are perfect or never have problems so he is doing something wrong. It really is helpful to skip all that bullshit and actually try to figure out problems.

So kudos to everyone for not letting your personal brand preferences get in the way of practical experience.

Chris

Will the slide lock to the rear?

Yes, all else seems fine. The two little spots on the frame rail are directly across from each other. Pretty much right where the barrel lug is. There a burr where something has bit into the metal slightly.
Don't think that is the issue though. When the slide comes off it rides across the top of the frame smoothly.

Going to guess that when you pull the slide back the recoil spring is shifting just enough to get it out of position to remove the slide.

I agree and have done it myself. One thing I got on mine is the extended slide release. It makes it a lot easier to remove the slide.

Thanks guys, that makes sense. But it happens every time. That is what makes me think that may not be the issue.

Nismo, did you get my email?

I only got the first initial email, no pics. Checked the spam filter, nothing there either. Sorry.
