So far, I've been having good luck with my Glock 17 and 43X and decided to have the sights replaced with Trijicon 3 Dot steel ones. A gunsmith put them on the pistols. Within two or three magazines of shooting through each, BOTH front sights came loose. Unbelievable!

I asked the gunsmith if he put blue Loctite on them and he said Loctite isn't used on sights. But he will retighten them. What do you say about this? Loctite or no Loctite?

IMO, if they came loose once, they might do it again, especially considering how little room and how fragile that little nut is on the underside of the slide. TIA

You're supposed to use loctite on the front sights of Glocks.

Use Loctite.

Your gunsmith is crazy. I first clean the threads of the screw with alcohol and then apply a drop of loctite.

The Glock armorer manual very clearly says to use threadlocker on the front sight screw.

As do the various sight manufacturers, including Trijicon.

Buy a cheap Glock front sight tool and a bottle of Loctite and fix it yourself. Then find a different gunsmith

Absolutely use Blue Loctite or equivalent. Just don’t use any of the more permanent stuff.

What Rogue said. I was taught this at the Glock armorer course. The front sight tools are really cheap to get.

That gunsmith really disappointed me on this one. He normally does good work on old school rifles and shotguns. I'll bring him up to speed with your recommendations. Hopefully, even an old dog like him will learn a new trick!

I use blue loctite on all my Glock front sights. You can not get much torque on those little sight screws - you need a mild thread locker to keep them from vibrating loose.

Both of these. Let's not enable stupid gunsmifs, changing out sights is something every Glock owner really ought to own the tools to do.

Yeah. You absolutely do use blue loctite, don’t go to that guy again for anything.

Beyond blue threadlocker (Loctite or Permatex) if the rear sight or any sight that's just pressed in place, use the green. The green has wicking abilities and will fill any voids. It's pretty thin stuff and it's designed to fill voids.

Dude my flabbers are gasted. What kind of gunsmith doesn't know that you absolutely put some blue Loctite on a Glock front sight screw. Like WHAT?!

Good gunsmiths have loads and loads of common sense, that one apparently didn't. He didn't even look it up on the net.
