I have owned several Sigs in the years past including 225, 226, 220, 228 and 229. While I was stationed in Hawaii, my MPI section received 16 brand new M11 (228) to replace our Beretta M9. All my personal Sigs were eventually replaced along the way with Glocks as that was what was issued with my latest job.

Lately I keep reading great things about the 365. I came across one by chance that ended in my favorite serial number. It had a Gray frame and a manual safety. I spent a few minutes online and confirmed that the MS was a two minute job to remove and I could then get a Black factory grip module to replace the Gray. The store also gave me a hefty military discount to boot. I also read many posts about the MEC-Gar vs Checkmate magazines, Italy vs Made in USA. I have used MEC-Gar magazines in the past with zero problems. So I promptly searched my local stores and found five MEC-Gar ten round magazines to replace the two Checkmate ten rounders that came with the pistol. I will probably put those two in my trade bag for the next gun show.

Hopefully I will get a chance to shoot it this weekend. I will run some NATO 124 FMJ through it first and then some Speer Gold Dot 124+P, which is my only carry round. I am very excited to see how it shoots!!!

So even though I continued to lurk here for years and enjoy your great forum, I am once again officially a Sig owner!!!

Congrats on the new pistola. Mine is a great shooter but I still end up carrying my G33 about 80% of the time. I just prefer carrying 357 Sig.

Thanks. I understand as my current CCW is a Glock 26.5. I see the 365 as being a special occasion carry. Larger than my Seecamp 32 but still smaller that the G26.5 when needed. I will see how it works out. It is an amazing size for 10+1.

Congrats and well, I have many P365's, they grow on you fast. At current count I have nine P365's in various forms (standard, XL, Macro, .380).

That being said I've always been anti checkmate for magazines. Too many bad experiences. Well I'll admit, my USA made (checkmate) P365 mags have been flawless. I have over a dozen in use and each one, flawless.

Swap out the Grip Module for a P365XL Grip Module and the capacity goes to 12+1 w/ a flush mount 12rd Mag...Plus, you can get you pinky on the gun too! I think you'll find it's suitable for more than just 'special occasions'! Wink

For half the price (just buy the 12 rd mag) you can simply use the 12 rd mag with the adapter sleeve that comes with it and have the same gun. I've used several of these and find the adapter sleeve to be very comfortable and still provides a full three finger grip. And then, if you want, you can easily go back to the compactness of the 10 rd mags if you need that configuration.

I've had great luck with mine...bought it in Feb of 2019...mine is the non-safety model and is the best Concealed Carry pistol I've ever tried.

Accuracy from defensive positions is comparable to several other Sigs that I own (I'm primarily a modified Weaver Stance shooter). That includes: a Sig 226 Mk25, P225, P220, & an M11A1.

The gun fits my size (L) paws, has great sights...especially that big green dot front, and capacity twice that of my J frame Model 60 Smith. With about 2500 rounds through it, I can't remember a malfunction and that includes JHP's of various manuf., FMJ's, and a variety of home cast LSWC's up to 130 grains.

It's truly a marvel. Here's a sample of the accuracy shot when it was new and maybe the 3rd or 4th magazine I'd run through it. Best of luck with yours. Rod

Adding the P365XL Grip Module (essentially a home spun P365X) is a BIG improvement over the std. P365 Grip Module and well worth it IMO. It allows for 'proper purchase' of the Pistol, and gets my pinky to be on the gun, where it should be. It also eliminates the potential pinch point when using 12 rd.Mags (w/ the floorplate spacer) in a std P365 Grip Module. The potential exists to be 'pinched' especially during a reload while under stress when using the std P365 Grip Module and 12 rd. Mags. I can get all of my fingers ON the P365XL Grip Module (with or without the Magazine in the gun), so better 'purchase' and ZERO chance of getting pinched.

Due to the compact size/height of the Magazines, using the 12 rd. Mags w/ just the Flat Baseplate also makes it easier to draw a reload out of a Mag Carrier IMO as well. Overall, it's just a better solution as I see it...NO Compromises!

Regarding the cost, if I've got a new P365, I'm buying a lot more than one 12 rd. Mag anyway, so the differential to change out the Grip Module is nowhere near half if you're gonna pass on the XL Grip Module...Just Sayin' Wink

ETA - I can HIGHLY recommend the Armory Craft Extended Checkered Mag Release for the P365 as well. I find the Mag Release on the P365 somewhat slick/lacking in purchase, and a little to flat to the Grip Module. The Armory Craft is only extended 2mm, but it's a night & day difference when compared to the SIG oem Mag Release. I consider it a mandatory upgrade the P365.

Look at the Magguts spring for an additional 2 rounds and easier loading. For the XL grip - it adds 3/8” with a 14 round mag.

Individual preference, removing the safety. With many, one could just leave the safety off if desired. I realize that preference varies, I’m not firm either way.

Not that I’m an extreme fanboy of Hickok45, nothing negative either. Not long ago I saw his pick of the near perfect, compact/pocket handgun.

He started with about 15 guns, & spent the next 15 minutes paring them down. He was near tied with the last 3, which included the S&W 642.

He ended up with a P365 as the top choice, I forget the exact variant he mentioned. Yes, always room for personal preference.

In reference to the nhracecraft post of May 25. My experience mirrors his to a T. Bought plain P365 (3.1") in a TacPac. Wanted the slide with no optics plate. Came with three 12 rd mags, but with the base plate (non-flush) for 12 round mags (mentioned earlier). Bought the Wilson XL grip module and the 12 rd flush base plates for the longer grip. Also installed the Armory Craft mag release.

End result:

1) The Wilson XL grip is a major improvement for me. I don't pocket carry, use it for belt carry (IWB & OWB).

2) The Armory Craft mag release is also a major improvement. Couldn't reliably drop the mags with the OEM version.

3) I shot my friend's standard size 10 rd P365. One problem I observed with him and me is the small grip size makes mag changes a PITA. No such problem with the XL grip frame and flush 12 rd mags.

4) It shoots as well as my Compact size guns. It's an amazing little pistol. One caveat, requires a consistently firm grip to properly control it when rapidly firing multiple rounds. Nothing excessive, but that's the only issue based on it's size/weight. Wouldn't hesitate to carry it as a primary.

5) Has been utterly reliable after well over a thousand rounds. Factory ball, re-loads, SD ammo (SV) and some 9BPLE +P+.

Thanks for all the great comments. I did find three (17) round magazines at the same time that I bought the 365. They are Made in USA. Does Mec-Gar also make the (17) round version?

^^^My experience has been that for the P365 (all variants) any 'Made in Italy' (by Mec-Gar) Mags have generally been supplied with the Pistol only, and for the most part, nearly all Mags sold as aftermarket accessories are Made in USA (by Checkmate). That may not be absolute, and certainly some Pistols 'may' have been supplied w/ Made in USA Mags, but I've never seen a 'Made in Italy' Mag for the P365 that didn't actually come with a Pistol. That said, my experience searching for aftermarket Mags has been limited to 12 rounders though, and ultimately I gave up trying to find the 'Made in Italy' variants... Wink

My 365 came with two Made in USA magazines. I found the five Meg-gar Made in Italy ten rounders at two different shops. But all the (17) rounders they had were Mase in USA.

I went to Talladega for many years and the last few times we stayed at the motel on the old Ft McClellan. Many years ago, we toured the MP Museum when it was still located there.

My new P365 Tacops (365XCA-9-TACOPS) came with FOUR 17 round USA magazines. Haven’t begun the break-in yet but it sure feels good in the hand. Born 10-APR-2023
