Very nice 47's TFR & SS. I have been collecting the same year S&Ws ever since I joined SWCA in 2010. Currently I only look for Roy Jinks lettered 11/47 pieces.

I’ll check the letter that came with mine to get a refresher on the date…will post once I have it.

Looks like my M&P barely made the cut for 1947; the Roy Jinks letter I have on it (originally requested by a prior owner and provided to me who I bought the gun) shows a ship-date of December 18th of that year.

I need to get a letter on my ‘47 K-22. I have the original Magna stocks (serialed to the gun) but prefer the factory targets as shown, said to date themselves to 1946.

Thanks for looking. I have been searching for the elusive 11/13/47 since 2012.

I love these old revolvers. I saw a Model 36 today in the used gun case. I got excited until I saw the Hilary hole. No thanks. These are beautiful, thanks for sharing.

I’m going to sneak-in a little “Big Friend / Little Friend” shot or three here featuring the M&P paired with something new-ish, at least compared to 1947: a circa 1980 Smith & Wesson Model 520.

I’ll probably do a separate post on this one soon but, in short, the 520 (at least this iteration, as I believe S&W later recycled the same Model number for a different revolver) was a New York State Police contract gun that fell-through when the NYSP opted to adopt an in-stock revolver rather than wait six months for S&W to fulfill the 3,000-unit order. The guns went to distributors (and perhaps were offered to NYSP troopers as private sales? Some of you wheelgun-fans here may have the full scoop on these) and the rest is a little slice of S&W history. Pinned and recessed, these 4-inch, square-butt, fixed-sighted N-frame .357s remind me of an M&P-style variant of the Model 27 or 28, with a little .38-44 HD vibe for good measure.

Mine arrived in what appeared to be an unfired state (I’ve since addressed that ) with an original box, a sealed factory tool set, and no papers. I added a BK Grips grip adapter to complement the factory Magna stocks.

My 4 inch was shipped in April of 47. My birthday was in February of 47, so I am happy with my birthday gun.

Great find! There is something indisputably classic and all-business about S&W K-frames. I still remember the serial number of the Model 15 I bought in 1974. The luster and finish of these fine revolvers is something special for all of us.
