On the fence.....Dealer has a 9mm West German 226 waiting for me. 95%+, with labelled yellow/ red interior box, U 1434xx....$575. He said it was a factory "K coat", "more durable than blueing." I must proclaim my ignorance here. Is this another std run of the mill production gun, or is this something I need to go back & get?

Some early SIGs had the K-kote. It's just barely more protective than the lowest blued finish. So, don't buy into it that it is significantly more durable, as the salesman implied. Yeah, it's just a production P226, but, for $575, sounds like a fair price to me, if really 95% and original.
