pedropcolaHi Point pistol at my last match
I have always been mildly curious at to the Hi Point pistol. Never seen one in real life. Obviously never shot one. Read reviews which mostly say inexpensive, heavy, blocky, not ergonomic, but surprisingly reliable.
Guy brought one to a bowling pin match on Saturday. It was almost all of the above. I have no idea what maintenance or lube he used. He was shooting factory ball ammo. It malfunctioned on a regular basis. It also appeared to be very challenging to clear malfunctions due to the sheer ungainliness and heavy recoil spring.
If I had ever considered one as a beater I am now suitably chastised.

Don’t know about the 9mm. This 45 though was bad. He really seemed to struggle on racking the slide, it seemed difficult to do. As a bonus though he got lots of malfunction drills.
When he did his part and the gun didn’t self destruct it was good enough to clear the table. Ugly as hell while doing it but...

NOT what I would choose for edc.
Glovebox or tackle box gun? Maybe.
Mine are flawless with ball ammo, and do naturally point surprisingly well.

Plenty of better? choices in that price range.
I’ve been thinking of getting a beater gun to secure in my car once I find a suitable safe but my beater guns end up being Glocks so I will just buy another Glock.

My Son has the 9mm carbine, VERY reliable.

molachiI had a Hi Point .40 that I traded back in 2012. Never had a problem with it. Fired every time and was surprisingly accurate.

grumpy1Not surprising to read of this, you pretty much get what you pay for. For not that much more the S&W SD9VE is a far far better pistol. I could never recommend a Hi Point pistol to anyone, especially as their first/only pistol.
