I was at the range today and put 250 rounds through my P290RS. As is the norm, guys tend to go up & down the line and visit/introduce each other during a lull or target change. Two fellows came up and started talking Sig when they saw my P226, but neither could ID my P290RS. A short conversation proved out that neither had even heard of it, though they both really liked it when I let them each fire a magazine.

I carry it when the P226 is not practical. It handles very well and has proven utterly reliable. However, Sig discontinued it as it just did not sell. Any thoughts on why it never caught on?

I'm with you. When carrying my M11A1 or my P365 is not practical, I can always put my P290RS in my pocket for the day. I have found it very reliable. But you have to practice the DA pull more.

My guess would be complaints about the long heavy trigger pull, and the long reset.

Personally, I enjoy mine and have no issues keeping it on target with +P ammunition. Like mentioned, you need to practice that DA trigger well.

Mine is heavy, clunky, poor trigger but works perfectly. I won’t get rid of it. It fills a niche.

Forgot to mention comes with great sights. Even if the front died immediately and Sig had to send replacement.

I am very pleased with my P290RS and it looks cute on top of everything

Yes, there are lighter guns and yes there are guns that hold more ammunition but my P290RS has not missed a beat. It is quite accurate for a pocket pistol and the added weight is not a burden on my pocket, but it does quench some of the recoil

There are no foreseeable reasons to get rid of it

I have one, I like it. I never carry it.

I normally carry a P229.

I had one and really liked it but when a gun goes dead even early in the ownership I just can’t trust.,

I had the 290RS for only three months. Fired about 300 rounds through it and the trigger went dead on me. Sent it back to Sig and it was fixed.
The note said they “adjusted the trigger”. How do you adjust an unadjustable trigger?

At least one other owner on this forum weighed in with the same exact problem. Shortly after this Sig stopped making them.

Anyhow, I traded it in on a new p938 which I have fired close to a thousand rounds through and I consider it a much better gun for carry and it has been flawless.

People complained about the trigger on this gun. I didn't have a problem with it. It was like a very nice DA revolver trigger. I always thought it was the perfect gun for someone who was a J-frame guy who wanted a small 9mm auto.

I liked to DAO trigger on the P290RS but it became obsolete when the 365 came out. Same size and greater capacity for a pocket pistol was the deciding factor.

While I sold my P290, I kept the holsters as the 365 and my Kahr K9 fit 3 differnt leather p290 holsters well

I like my 290RS and have had it many years. I took it to the range 2 years ago and thought I left the magazines there and had to replace them. Last summer I found them in my rifle bag so now I have plenty. Good concealed carry gun. I did the upgrade flat trigger and steel guide rod and spring set. Like a 7 shot double action revolver that's flat. Accurate enough and a handful with gold dot. I held a 365 yesterday and felt nice. Only problem I ever had was with steel cased ammunition. Everything else goes bang or bang the second time if the primer isn't right on a reload. I would like to get different grip inserts and another iwb holster for it.
