I spotted this Hinderer Emmett knife on eBay and snagged it for the V1917 serial number. I thought it would be neat in this photo since the Colt 1911 was made in 1918 and the artillery fuse is dated 1916. The pocket watch belonged to my great-great-grandfather.




This is just some stuff I carried yesterday. I hadn't carried the P220 in a while.

Grimsmo Saga: Generally awesome. It has a great feel and balance. The mechanism is really neat and unique. I highly recommend watching their videos on YouTube. I didn't want a Saga until I watched those and fell for the time and effort that went into making them. They come in many varieties. I like my being plain stone washed with a nickel aluminum bronze slider. I'm a big copper & brass fan so I would only want one with a slider made of that material. Logos on the pen tip and clicker button can affect value. People generally pay more for logos on the tip and especially the click button. Joint the Grimsmo discussion group on Facebook if you're on there. Lots of information and it's the best way to snag a Saga. I also recommend getting one with at least serial number 0600. Somewhere around there is when they started making the body tubes in-house as opposed to using premade tubing. For the price, I want it all made by them.

Microtech Siphon 2: These are great if you like to fidget with stuff and for starting conversations; people always ask about them when they see me using it. They are ok for quick notes but I would want to write a novel with one. They aren't the most comfortable.

Machine Era Field Pen (black & brass ones): In my opinion, these are the best pens if you want something small. They are just as big as they need to be to use a Parker refill. They're well made, have a nice/fun mechanism, and are reasonably priced. Unfortunately, I don't think they make this model anymore

Hinderer Investigator: These are a close second to the Field Pen. They share the same great attributes expect for the mechanism. This one has a screw-on cap so it's a two-handed affair. On the plus side, Hinderer makes different tips and they can be used defensively in a pinch. Notice one has a pointed tip and one is flat. They also make a much more pointed/aggressive tip.

All these pens use Parker refills. Specifically, I use Fisher Space fine point refills almost exclusively. They work best for my needs. Refills changes are easy for all of them.

All of these are made in the USA.

I use pens often every day for everything from notes at work to keeping Rummy scores while my lady and I are at coffee shops, wineries, or breweries. I would estimated the usage of these pens as follows (% of time I grab it if I need a pen):
Grimsmo Saga: 90%
Microtech Siphon 2: 5%
Machine Era Field Pen or Hinderer Investigator: 5%

I have a lot of other pens but I just don't use them much any more. The copper pen on the bottom of that photo is a Matthew Martin. I used it quite a bit until I got the Saga.

As far as mechanical pencils go, I don't have much experience with nice ones. Tactical Turn is making them so if I wanted one I'd probably start there. Machine Era might also make some.
