Well I have passed the 1200 round mark with my HK CC9 and thought I would speak to my experience to this point as well as to the wear I have observed. This is basically a followup to this thread. https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...140011515#1140011515 Once again for those in the cheap seats. Am I current law enforcement? No. Have I ever been a door kicker or pipe hitter of any kind? No. Am I a low speed, high drag suburban dad with mediocre shooting skills and no innate shooting talent? YES! Do I have any desire to visit violence on anything that has or had a mom? HELL NO!! I have just been blessed with the ability to experience a very wide array of firearms in my life, no more, no less. I know very little about very little so if anybody wants to shout...."He can't shoot!!!" or "He doesn't know shit!!!" you sir ...... are basically correct. :P. So now that all of that is out of the way on to my thoughts. THE 10 WORDS OR LESS READ -Its a good carry gun on par with its peers. I like it. I heard you yell that's more than 10 words. Did I mention I was also terrible at math? WEAR AND TEAR OVER THE LAST 1200+ ROUNDS. All in all there is VERY little wear on the gun that didn't exist basically day one or at least very early on. The gun has been in and out of kydex quite a lot and the exterior is showing no wear. The barrel is also showing very, very little wear. There is the hint of a barrel smiley at the very end towards the muzzle but that is it. It has basically not worn at all in those 1200 rounds. The slide rails are showing normal wear and tear. Nothing out of the ordinary. The controls/sights are showing no wear at all. The inside of the slide is showing the most wear but nothing I would deem out of the ordinary. The slide may look filthy but its mostly just oil reflections and the fact I just sat it on my work bench. The one wear area that I have seen folks complain about is on the inside of the slide on the "dark" side of the chamber. This is how it looked out of the box, this is how it looks on every CC9 I have come across. It hasn't gotten worse in those 1200 rounds. I have to think it is due to some fitting or cycle testing process done at the factory (at least with the earlier guns that I have seen). So all in all I am actually very happy with how the gun is wearing. It seems to be a fairly robust little thing. SO HOW'S IT "SHOOT" I dunno, ask folks who can shoot. I will say that for me personally it shoots well enough for my needs. My biggest problem with ALL this super light/skinny guns, is I tend to over control them left or right more easily then thicker guns. The CC9 is no different in this regard. The gun is exceptionally thin and while that makes it a JOY to carry I have be on my game when shooting it, like all of its peers. The trigger is very good, but is little changed from new. It was good out of the box. The recoil impulse is the lowest of all the guns in its class that I have shot, barring the Glock 48 which is sort of in a class of its own. Now by recoil impulse I mean how the felt recoil feels to me personally, not a scientific FT/LBs to FT/LBs thing. The point is, its a pretty docile gun given its size. The gun has worn the stock iron sights for about 1100 rounds. I did recently put a 407k dot on it. The following was done recently back to back at bit less then 10 yards. I noted 8.5 yards but it was probably closer to 9 yards. I ran each gun from low ready into quick double taps. The G48 was the easiest but honestly they were all fairly similar in my hands. As I said I recently put a Holosun 407K on the gun and these were shot after "gross" sight in. All in all I am pretty happy with guns performance given my "skill" RELIABILITY In the 1200+ rounds I have shot I've had 3 failures to feed. All three happened around the 800ish round mark and all three exhibited the same way from the same magazine. They were all extreme high angle failures coming out of the mag. The mag in question was brand new, never loaded, never run. My guess is because I hadn't preloaded the mag and let the springs settle a bit it was just over sprung initially. I've seen this with other tiny mags with lots of ammo crammed in. After I had left the mag loaded and shot it a bit, no more problems were seen. In my opinion, as a general rule if you have a mag that takes a ton of force to load that last round, or it won't load initially you should load them and let them set for a few days or work them a bit because they can cause issues. I broke my rule with this mag, so that is what I believe was the cause of the issues. Other then those three the gun has run everything from Gold Dots, HST, +P, 115 grain, 124 grain etc. just fine. I have NOT run any 147 grain however. It's not my favorite 9mm weight so its rare that I have it or run it. SO WHAT ABOUT THE DOT? So in answer to questions about me putting a dot on the gun. 1-Do I think a pistol needs a dot? Absolutely not. It's simply not the force multiplier it is on rifles. 2-Will a dot make me a better shooter? Yes, but not how you envision. The dot will clean up your presentation, show you your trigger issues, show you what your grip is doing to the gun etc. So if you are willing to put the dryfire time in the dot can be a valuable training aid. If, however, you don't have good fundamentals, and are not willing to learn/dryfire etc. then no a dot won't do shit for you. They don't technomagically pick up where your lack of skill falls off. 3-If I am a good shooting will a dot make me better? Like any technology if you have the skills to utilize what it brings to the table it will pay dividends. The dot excels at fast transitions from target to target or moving targets. 4-So if you say they aren't necessary on a pistol why do you use them? For me personally they are best damn night sight EVER. 5-But I can never find the dot? The two main reasons I have found people have issues with dots are.... A-Their fundamentals suck. They simply cannot pick up a pistol or draw from a holster and present it properly. It is what it is. I've seen it time and again at the range. B-They are one eye closed shooters who focus intensely on the dot. The reality is you shoot them both eyes open and pay attention to what you want to hit not the dot(it will just be there). For me I've always shot target focused, two eyes open my whole life so red dots were nothing for me and were just sort of brighter front sights if you will. I've grown to like them quite a bit but I am perfectly happy with irons and prefer them in most cases. 6-Why the 407k? Why not an EPS or other enclosed optic. You know part of me totally sees the benefit of enclosed but part of me also feels like if the seals go the problem becomes internal. Open emitters can be wiped clear or blown out if need be. Also see afore mentioned low speed, high drag, suburban dad comment. I'm not fast roping into a jungle strong hold. I am carrying IWB to the grocery store. As an aside I REALLY like the 6 MOA dot size. I wanted to try this out and this was a cheap, known quantity, entry point to do so. 7-Does it co witness with the stock irons? JUST BARELY. You can absolutely get an iron sight picture but that front sight is just peeking out so to speak. While part of me would like taller irons, there is also the part of me that has no illusions that I would actually have the presence of mind to transition to irons in an emergency. Let's be honest my scared, puckerd ass will be using that dot window like God's own ghost ring. FINAL THOUGHTS My thoughts haven't changed drastically beyond the fact that I find myself liking the gun more and more. It's absolutely no better then any of its peers, but I like it and I've found myself carrying it more and more......when I am cheating and not carrying a real gun. Well as always I hope my "just some idjit on the interwebz data point" helps somebody just a bit and if not.......what do you expect I am just some idjit on the interwebz!!! Forgot to mention my one real complaint, really a nitpick, is that locking the slide back with no mag is tough. I find I have to shift my body/hand so my thumb is pressing straight up on the slide lock while keep the gun in a safe direction. Slide release is easy pie, slide locking is a bit of chore with no mag inserted. Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

Great range report, thank you! If I had to sum up the feel of the CC9 in a word, the word would be solid. It's kinda like a decent handshake, you know it when you get it and you instantly appreciate it.

Sigh. I want one but will probably never have one unless I move states.... "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." L.Tolstoy "A government is just a body of people, usually, notably, ungoverned." Shepherd Book

As always, great review and I enjoyed reading it. Interesting take on the open vs closed emitters. I've had that same concern about seal failure as well, but I don't own a closed-emitter handgun optic so I have no experience to base it on. I have been carrying and shooting open-emitter dots for 3 years now, and have yet to have a failure that can be blamed on the emitter not being enclosed. All else being equal I'd probably opt for enclosed given the option, but I think the concerns about open emitters are overblown, at least in my environment. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

I like mine. I need to get out more with it. It's more accurate than I am for sure, and it will outlive me for sure also. I trust it more than any current Sig. HK's testing leaves all competitors in the dust. _______________ If anyone has any factory P239 .357 SIG +1 mag extensions, I need (5) of them. Email in profile thx!

Excellent follow up review - thank you for writing it. I've been on the fence between this one and the little FN offering.

Thanks for the review. I am glad the finish on yours is holding up. I got my CC9 about a month ago and my G-Code holster just arrived. My P365X has significant finish wear from carrying it the last two years. I am encouraged that the CC9 finish is more durable.

I love my 365’s but I have to believe HK made a more durable product. I don’t need one of these but these threads make me ponder.

Nice review. This little gun keeps popping up on my radar even though they are never in stock "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...
