So I have carried Glocks for the most part for over 30 years. I am trying a little experiment, to see if I can carry something other than a glock for the next week.

I’m finding
it’s a little bit harder than I expected, because I’m used to caring a 43 or 26 as my smaller guns, and I don’t have anything except a J frame to replace them. I’m fortunate that I have the luxury of some other things to try, and now that I am retired, I don’t have the same level of threat that I dealt with when I was working.

Right now I’m using a P2000, a Colt Commander, or a J frame.

I am not LEO or never was...so...anyway I was happy and felt comfortable with my 37-2 S&W j-frame on my ankle for many many years. I still carry it as an easy/quick carry gun or a back-up but I honestly feel under gunned with it now. I don't expect to ever need it but if I do I don't want to feel short on the number of rds available.

I own many med and large framed glocks but just recently went all in on a new Glock 43x, holsters, 15rd mags and my first Glock guide rod laser.

Thinking about you being retired LEO you more then most I would think would feel short on rds with a 43, J-frame or something without a decent amount of available rds if needed.

I actually like my 43X, but carry my 26 far more.

This was just kind of an experiment so I am working with what I have.

Here in CA my only real non-Glock options are a Kahr or the CA version S&W Shield. Since Im on kind of a fixed income, I'm not interested in buying any new guns...at least not now.

Once you get a hold of the Glock, it gets a hold of you. Your subconscious will yearn for the Glock back in your pocket until you give in again. I give it one more day. At most. FWIW I’m just regurgitating what my Glocks just told me.

Not retired….yet….but getting there. Issued a Glock 30S these days, but have carried the G37 and G21 for years before.
Carry my P365X daily and don’t miss the big G, but when I’m on my own time and not traveling to the big city, I find I’m usually packing the Kimber Micro 9 (P938 clone) and a spare mag.

Just to throw some sand in the soup....

I own three Glocks... I carry a Sig p239 most days and have several more loaded around the house... If I was going to carry striker fired it would be my Sig P320 compact.

now to be far I do have a Glock 32c hidden in my work vehicle. But when I get another P239 in 357sig I will probably trade that in for it... The 32c was in there because of the 'rifle/pistol' in the same caliber / same magazines I kept in there... but since the BATFE has decided it is now illegal with out an NFA stamp.... that rifle/pistol has been 'retired'.....

I don't have a Glock 26 but my HK P2000SK is basically that gun in LEM size wise. I too carry a J frame at times but if I am honest it is just because I like them not because it is the best idea. My carry "rotation" is 365, J frame, P2000SK. Anything bigger I need winter style clothes.

Duty is a G-21
Off duty I went from a G-19 to a G-43x with Shield magazines (15+1, so the same # of rounds in a smaller package).

If, in the random chance I feel the need to have an extra one, it's a 340pd in the pocket.

Summertime, occasionally I throw a Ruger 380 in the shorts.

Unfortunately, I have a list of approved guns I can carry on and off duty. If I didn't, I'd have no problem carrying a 1911, P-220 or a BHP. When I pull the pin here, and get out of Dodge, those three will be in a regular rotation for EDC.

If... IF... I ever come across a H&K P-7 for a good price, and snatch one up, I'd have no problem with that as an EDC.

But for the most part, size doesn't really bother me that much. I prefer a thin pistol with a higher round count. I'd take a G-17 / BHP over a P-226 because of thickness, then the weight factor. A WML is optional. Yes, I'm off duty, and not looking for trouble, but I figure with 15 rounds of 9mm, or 8+8 of .45- that should be capable of dealing with any trouble that may come up.

HA! I’ve been doing the opposite by putting more time / effort into my Glocks and re-learning them. Smile.

Run a flat baseplate on the P2000 and you might be surprised at how “small” it feels carrying.

If you do make sure to grab a gallon of unicorn tears and a rainbow bridge too. Smile. I mean since finding a P7 these days for a good price is probably just about as likely. Smile. Awesome guns though, even though there are more practical choices these days.

I was a little shocked at the prices of these the last time I looked a short while back.

Looks like you have an excellent "excuse" to purchase a few new small guns.

I've always wanted to try a P2000, or whatever the model after it was [P30?]
Liked the USP45C I got some trigger time with, even if I didn't shoot it as well as the P220ST we also had at the range that day.

Since you are stuck in CA, and you have the P2000, which is similar in size to a Glock 19, why not get a P2000SK? It's almost the same size as the Glock 26. It's a great little gun; I have a P30SK that I really like.

Maybe this experiment has revealed a flaw in your carry gun collection.

Then again, carrying an all steel Commander around, even just for a week, builds character.

I’ve tried to get away from Glock several times and always seem to find my way back. The simplicity and light weight are hard to beat.

This! Almost exact footprint as SIG P225, but lighter and higher ammo capacity. Problem is finding flat plated magazines. I had to order separate flat plates and change them out. Which is costly, and cumbersome.

Edited to add: Now that I am out of California I don’t “need” the 10 rounders. I can send you a couple of them. Or, if you are attending SoCal get together put on by Dave Truong (looking like March 8), I can bring them.

Not LE but I converted from Glock 26/27/33 to 43 to 365. Live it.

The 43 is no slouch by any means and I would have no problem carrying it if that was what I had access to. The closest thing I have to a 43 now is my 42 and really like it a lot.

I sold my only Glock, a G26, about a year ago, so I am truly Glockless. I've been doing pretty good with it...until today when I qualified a guy on some backup guns today and he brought a Gen 4 G26 along. I remembered why I liked that gun so much...it's just such a great size to carry and shoot. He also brought along an LC9 (what a turd that was) and a P365, and of the three the Glock was clearly the best shooter for him based on times and group size.

I didn't shoot, but handling and dry-firing all three side by side it was easy to see why. The Ruger is too thin and has the trigger from hell. The P365 has always felt too small for me and several of the ones I've seen tend to run on the ragged edge of reliability. The G26 is completely reliable and just fills the hand perfectly without any extra size. I got a little bit of seller's remorse there for a bit and had to stop myself from checking prices on a new Gen 5.
