This is pretty cool, very James Bond gadget looking, and that's not all bad, a bit more firepower than the Walther PPK....

A collaboration of Magpul and Zev Technologies it shoots 9mm and uses Glock 21 Round mags (2) and it's only 11 inches long when folded. I could carry it in my Harley Tour Pack, it would fit under a seat in the car/truck easily.



Really interesting in seeing this in the wild.




Gun of the Week: Zev Technologies x Magpul FDP-C

One of the most anticipated firearm releases of 2026 was the Zev Technologies FDP, a folding pistol-caliber design that the company produced in conjunction with Magpul Industries. Watch our "Gun of the Week" episode above to see exactly how it works.

"This is the Zev Technologies/Magpul FDP-C. That is the Folding Defensive Platform-Carbine," American Rifleman Executive Editor Jay Grazio said. "Now it's a carbine. That's what they call it. It's actually a short-barreled rifle, so it does fall under the NFA. You have to file the paperwork for one, but the tax is now zero, thanks in no small part for the actions of your NRA."



Chambered for 9 mm Luger, the Zev Technologies FDP-C feeds from standard Glock-pattern magazines, and two Magpul PMag 21 GL9 magazines ship with each gun. The design measures just under 11 inches long when in its folded configuration, and when fully deployed, it measures just over 20 inches long. Unloaded, the carbine weighs about 3.5 pounds.

"This is kind of a long-running project that began life in the late 2000s as Magpul’s FMG-9, that was Folding Machine Gun 9[mm]. It was more of a proof of concept, kind of a, you know, cool 'Look at this. Look what we can do,' kind of thing," Grazio said. "And the project...marinated for quite a few years. Then, eventually, they brought Zev Tech on board to work on the firearm aspect."



The design is equipped with a 7-inch barrel and features a set of bilateral charging handles, along with a reversible push-button magazine release, enabling use for both right- and left-handed users.

"Magpul makes all of the polymer bits, this folding stock, the frame, the grip frame, of course, the magazine, that sort of thing," Grazio said. "We've got an integral sight that also doubles as a carry handle. You can pop this off, and there's a full-length Picatinny rail if you wanted to put an optic on."


Folding the gun involves depressing a lever at the rear of the polymer grip, which contains the GL9 magazine, then folding the stock 180 degrees until the butt meets the muzzle end of the polymer frame, creating an easily carried package that, outwardly, resembles a toolkit or carrying case. The gun will fold with the included 21-round magazine locked into the grip frame.


"It's surprisingly accurate and uses a common tilting barrel, like your Glock, when you're shooting," Grazio said. "Super easy to take apart, super easy to clean, and a lot of fun."

Oh, they're finally releasing this?

Magpul has been trotting out the prototypes at SHOT and other firearms trade shows for like 20 years now.

A very niche gun, more of a range toy than anything practical.

Though the seemingly imminent demise of the NFA might slightly increase its potential market since it at least wouldn't require jumping through SBR hoops.

I guess overpriced stocks in a flooded, down market and magazines nobody feels compelled to panic buy had them needing to actually do something new.

Their newer RXM collaboration with Ruger has been selling like hotcakes.

And their newer P365 and P320 AMAGs are even better than the Sig factory mags.

Plus the PMAG is still the gold standard for AR mags, and their AR furniture and accessories are some of the most popular on the market.

Magpul isn't hurting for business, or new releases. Even if they were, releasing an ultra-niche range toy isn't going to make any major difference on their balance sheet.

I've been watching this for years since Magpul first showed it off, but for the price, what's the practicality of it? It's just another fun gun.

I don't think anybody intent on shooting you is going to wait for you to unfold it.

I assume it can't be fired unless and until unfolded? Otherwise that would make it an AOW.

Awesome, but Impractical

It is pretty dang cool though. Glad they actually put it in production.

Zev are not cheap but I have questions.

1. Does anyone know if it uses the same Zev FCU from the Zev pistol? And will it fit into this?

2. If so, will they sell a 'chassis' kit?

3. With the potential removal of SBR/SBS from the NFA registry, will this sell better?

I’m bemused by many of you not seeing any practicality in it. It deploys at the push of a button. If it is slower than sweeping your shirt back and pulling your gun out of a holster, it has to be so small a difference as to not matter. And, of course, any SBR is substantially more accurate to shoot than a pistol.

For someone who has kids in college, this seems like a great backup plan to put in their backpacks. Niche maybe, but it does have practical use.

Reminds me of the subgun the little psycho kid on Robocop 2 had. Only better.

I really like it, and I am jealous of those who will buy one.
