I'm stashing away money each month for a Staccato P and want to start picking up magazines so I'll have some when I finally get the gun.

...but they're hen's teeth.

The 17 round or 20 round 9mm mags are out of stock more or less everywhere--even STI. And those that seem to have some in stock are like $20 overpriced. Who knows if they're even the Gen 2 mags.

So how do I get these things? I've checked half a dozen places, if not more. I'm not even looking for quantity, just a place I can get one or two at a time.

Try Midwest gunworks. They have stock of many STI mags.

That’s crazy. I’ve never had an issue getting 2011 mags.

Will these work? Looks like Gen 2 20rd 9mm magazines.

When it comes to 2011 magazines, I have always preferred SVI Infinity over STI.
Have you looked here?

Generally speaking, it takes some gunsmithing to get a new style SVI mag to work in an STI frame... The old SV mags are the best 2011 mags ever made, but the ones with the diamonds on the side generally will not seat in a STI spec frame without breaking some angles on the frame.

go to a USPSA match and talk with some of the shooters, most guys don’t use the 126 and replace them with larger mags right away.

I’ve got a 126 that came with my Edge, and I have used it once. Then I got some larger mags.

Are you eligible for their mil/le program? You can order direct from STI that way. It’s cheaper too. My Staccato P came in last week. I just need to find time to get to my FFL and pick it up. I ordered three extra mags with it (June). When they release the new style grip, I will order it and more mags.

Osage was my first stop, but they're out of the 126mm and 140mm 9mm mags.

I had looked at Dawson Precision for the 126mms to no luck, but I'll snag 2 of the 140s just to have some, since it's looking like a challenge to get these things.

Am I right that the 120mm mags won't work in a Staccato P?

126 is the shortest you can go in a gun with a full sized grip. 120 is for "VIP" length guns.

STI pistols are the hottest thing going in the industry right now. The USMS contract is only part of it. There are a lot of pretty influential folks getting behind them. The company has done a good job of reinventing itself in the last couple years.

The current production "Gen 2" mags are the best overall magazine out there for the guns when you consider reliability and price. These mags require no "tuning" and cost all of $40 if you shop for them. No more buying five mags to get three that work or buying tubes, springs, and followers and building usable mags.

Those things add up to demand far exceeding production. I got six of them earlier this summer from Brownells by backordering them when they had a 10% off code. I suggest doing the same the next time there is such a code.
