I saw this locking insert on sale at Optics Planet for $42. There are machined versions for $112. Machined supposed to be tougher? Will either work but it seems like they are different, one a bigger opening on one side. Please help. https://www.opticsplanet.com/s...king-insert-226.html vs https://www.opticsplanet.com/s...rt-226-machined.html I will be picking up my new P226 Scorpion tomorrow and would like to drop in a non CA compliant locking insert (no mag disconnect safety), and have the untouched stock version as a spare or in the event I sell it in the future.

Ok thanks. Does it matter if it's machined or not?

I thought you said "either would work" lol. Sorry. Here are the correct links: https://www.opticsplanet.com/s...king-insert-226.html vs https://www.opticsplanet.com/s...rt-226-machined.html

Any particular reason? Can I install the cheaper one disregarding it's the one for the mag disconnect? I guess my main concern is for dry firing only. I don't mind having that feature. Question is will I be able to pull the slide halfway with a snap cap in the chamber and reset the trigger on a P226? Will this wear down anything because I do this for my beretta and G17?

You will reset the trigger after pulling the slide back less than an inch, so yes, you can do that with a snap cap in the chamber and not eject it. It won't hurt anything, but you may occasionally eject the snap cap without meaning to. One alternative some people use is to cut a foam earplug and insert it in the slide between the hammer and firing pin. It cushions the blow to the firing pin without the need for a snap cap in the chamber. As for the mag disconnect, does that still function if you remove the magazine follower? If so, you can use a foam earplug and empty mag tube to dry fire without worrying about a snap cap or locking the slide back. <><><><><><><><><><><><><> "I drank what?" - Socrates

OP, you might want to just call SIG and ask them how to identify the standard locking insert for the pistol you're getting. You don't necessarily have to tell them that you're thinking about ditching the mag safety.

I think I'd find somebody else to buy from than optics planet.
