I had field striped my Legion P229 and was cleaning, with a patch, and fooling with the Sear Spring, Ejector and Safety Lever....just testing for looseness/movement before I assembled everything. Trying to put the slide on...it simply stopped like hitting a piece of metal. Took me a while but finally noticed the Sear Pivot Pin (for the sear, sear spring, safety lever and ejector) had wiggled out into the channel and was stopping the slide. My question is shouldn't this pin fit tight enough so that it can't wiggle out so easily? I can literally push it in with a little pressure from a toothpick. Could push it all the way out pretty easily if I wanted to. Does it need to be replaced? This legion has 3700 rounds through it so far. I have another, new P229, and that pin cannot be moved with a simple toothpick.

It can’t move when the guns firing. I’ve seen the pretty loose.

Yeah, I haven’t seen one that doesn’t move with just a touch. As said, it can’t drift out with the slide on. Nothing to be concerned about at all. ------------------------------------------------ Charter member of the vast, right-wing conspiracy

Ditto on its often being very loose (not always, though), and not having any place to go when the gun is assembled. “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz This life is a drill. Thanks for all the responses. Just that, testing out the new scorpion P229, its sear pivot pin had no movement and I'd have to push it pretty hard to get that one to move. Of course, that gun has only 300 rounds through it and never been completely disassembled for cleaning. I assume you get SOME wear as a gun is disassembled for cleaning, over time, and more rounds are fired through it. Funny thing is...it had never happened before and it took me a good 20 minute to figure out what was stopping the slide from going back on....I've field stripped it and cleaned it like 25+ times at least. Just thought I'd ask....THANKS!!!

The tight pins are caused by the fit of the ejector and can make assembling the guns a difficult nuisance because everything must be lined up exactly right. “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz This life is a drill.
