I walked into a local pawn shop yesterday before hitting the range, intending to look for a pair of grips for my single-action army clone. Of course, wouldn't you know it, one of the four handguns in their case was a 1988 P226. No box, but it came with two mags (one is a zipper). It's not a perfect pistol but it's in really good shape with just some minor slide wear. I had no intention of picking up a P226 yesterday, but for $399 out the door I couldn't pass it up. Seems to shoot well, on par with the past 226s I've owned.

I have a bit of a soft spot for "Made in W. Germany" guns for some reason, and this little fella happened to be at the right place at the right time I guess.

Real zipper? or dovetail?

Amazing deal! Congrats. Looks almost new. All my local pawn shops have nothing but stolen tools and $700 beat-to-hell Glocks.

Good question. Dovetail, not zipper.

Thanks! This specific shop has some great finds once in awhile. I came across a like-new in box 1997 P220 there a few years back for around $450. Needless to say, that's in my collection as well.

There is definitely some wear on the high spots, but the internals and rails have barely any wear so I'm pretty happy. Many of the shops around me are like what you describe, and this one specific shop doesn't carry much inventory at all but they are extremely fair in their pricing and get some gems once in awhile.

Was that the ask at the shop or the price you beat him down to ? I ask becuase most pawn shops around here will negotiate and I’ve tried to explain this to my son and he’s seen me get 30-50% off the ask of stuff especially when I’m already pulling out the presidents.

Either way you got a really good deal on a clean piece. congrats. I have a w German 226 but I’d have jumped on that out of principle.

Great score indeed. Now all you need is a pallet of ammo to go with it.

I don't need another WG P226, but I would have bought that if I had seen it.
I want to buy one for the DAO hammer I've had for years..
Dallas PD has been carrying DOA P226 pistols for a long time.
I'd just like to have one.. Cool

Great find. All the pawn stores in my neck of the woods seem to get their comps from broker; that would be a $550-600 buy here.

Great score!!!! Mine is a 1988 JJ I bought in 1988. My serial number range starts with U189. Take a look at the dual roll pins for the breach block. Looks like the inner one has migrated out just a bit. Make sure it’s not broken. If it’s pushed in one side and out the other it’s ok and you can just tap in to center it. I had one broken years ago and it was flush on one side and migrated out the other. Sliced my hand pretty good. You can get new recoil spring from topgunsupply.

Looks like it’s in great shape—outstanding Nitron.
Yep I would have grabbed that one too at that price.

Thanks all. Yeah, had no intention of coming home with a P226 knew I'd be kicking myself if I let this one pass by.
