Hey all-

Seems like forever since I last got on here. Hope everyone's doing well.

I'm orbiting back into the gun hobby a bit, and happened to win a GB auction for a rock island tac 2 1911 in 10mm.

Don't really know what I'm going to do with it, or whether I'll hold it long term. But I do think it's prudent either way to pick up a few mags for it. At least 1911's in single stack aren't affected by the idiocy in my state's politics....

That said, I've been out of the game for so long and have never messed with 10mm. I recall from my .45 ACP 1911 days that wilson mags were pretty much the best. Is that the case with 10mm? I also searched and found a rec for some tripp cobra mags in 10mm that were pretty well liked.

Thank you in advance for the collective wisdom/advice.

Metalform makes a good 1911 magazine.
I have a good number of them and have never had an issue.

Wilson mags are good. There are a couple more, but, I'll be darned if I can recall their names right now.

Had mostly Mec-Gar and a few Colt never had a hiccup with either and at the time Mec-Gars were like $14 bucks at the time. Looks like they are up to $20.

I could not bring myself to pay the extra for WC mags when I had zero issues with the cheaper mags.

I had some Wilson 10mm mags that turned my RIA and my Ruger into single shots.
Meg-Gar and Metalform have always worked for me.
YMMV

Interesting, I'm surprised at that from Wilson.

What was the issue?

Recently picked up a Kimber Custom II 10mm. Based on reviews on Youtube I bought a Wilson Combat magazine. Went to the range Monday and used the Kimber magazine and the WC. The Kimber magazine worked flawlessly through a box of ammo. With the WC magazine I started to get FTF’s after two mag fulls. Pretty annoying especially after watching all the recommendations about replacing the Kimber mag with a WC. Since the Kimber was ejecting the shells into low earth orbit I am going to put in a heavier recoil spring and maybe that will help the WC. We’ll see how it goes when the heavier recoil spring is installed. If the WC still has problems I’ll try another mfg.

A 10mm Kimber Custom II GFO is one 1911 in which I'm using Wilson mags. They've all performed flawlessly for me.

Not a Wilson hater, they are my go to for all my 1911/45. But I too have heard issues with the Wilson’s and 10mm.

I’ve heard that Tripp cobras are to 10mm like Wilson’s are to .45

I nabbed a couple to give em a try, but I haven’t found time to try them out.

I wouldn’t hesitate on Mecgar for a second though.

I’m surprised Tripp CobraMags didn’t come up sooner. When I bought a Dan Wesson 10mm CBOB circa 2010, they were pretty much the ONLY 10mm mags everybody agreed were good (granted, there are more 10mm mag options now).

I bought five or six back then and have put a couple thousand rounds through the CBOB with the CobraMags with no issues.

Tripp and McCormick were the other two of which I was thinking, the other night, and couldn't recall the names.

I have one or two of one or the other, laying around here, somewhere, that I bought to test. Whichever it is, I haven't gotten around to testing them yet.

The mags that came with my Kimber Custom II GFO worked flawlessly, too.

N.B.: I did have failures-to-feed, but, that was not mag-specific. It was a combination of extractor tension and, my smith found, an interference issue--the specifics of which I cannot recall atm.

It was a while back….they were 9rd mags. IIRC, they nose dived the rounds into the feed ramp.
I do believe I shed them on the forum via a “karma”. With full disclosure, of course.
