In a recent thread, I said "The Glock is beginning to achieve the same status as the 1911 and the Peacemaker, with so many companies making copies."

I also speculate that Glock's sixth generation will likely incorporate a removable chassis FCM.

Here we have a company making these things truer.

Looks like they're a day late and a dollar short with Ruger and Magpul doing the same thing with the RXM. Otherwise, this would be huge.

That makes G100, Shield Arms, Ruger, and Zev making G19.3 chassis-based firing control units/inserts. Am I missing anyone else?

Depending on how their licensing is designed, this may be the thing that has the power to become "the standard" in modular Glock clones.

The biggest downside to Ruger and Zev each making their own chassis system is that they're each making their own chassis system. It won't likely matter as it relates to small parts, triggers, slides, barrels, and magazines, but arguably the biggest draw to a chassis-based design is swappable frames. Look at the P320 and P365 markets. Compatibility in grip modules would be a huge benefit between manufacturers.

^^^^That may be possible right now, but it probably should be pointed out that all of this may likely go for naught if Glock indeed introduces their own FCU-based system for the Gen6 Glocks. It seems that we could easily see a scenario that most aftermarket companies will probably be significantly more interested in providing accessories like grip modules in support of an official Glock factory effort, much in the same way SIG benefits from support from outsiders like Wilson Combat. But since we as yet don't really know what will happen with Glock's future guns, those outside companies may as well get some practice in working with an "unofficial" design.

You're assuming that no one will build grips for the Ruger/Magpul like others have made for the P320/365/Zev. The big advantage with the Ruger is Magpul isn't likely to go out of business and will likely keep spitting out different grips for a low starting price.

No, I think they will and I still think that is the biggest benefit to the concept.

My point is that depending on how licensing for this chassis system (which can be 3D printed by a user) is handled, it may be a pathway for other companies to make guns using the same chassis, which would contribute to the grip module market.

The biggest problem with the RXM is that no matter what you do to pretty it up, it's going to say Ruger on it. Some people will avoid it just for that. Ruger/Magpul's own roadmap already includes 17 round frames, which is a plus.

And many folks will stay away from the Glock because it is a Glock.

I’ll be getting an RXM or two. Glock I will not.

Sure. The same can be said for any brand, however I do not think Ruger has the respect and recognition that Glock does in the segment where these guns will be most successful. I've got no problem with Ruger, I've got a few of their guns.

This is cool. I doubt it will be commercially successful at the price point they are selling it at (you can get a complete Ruger RXM for just a hair more than an FCU and a grip module from these guys, and likely off the shelf at the LGS so no transfer fee), but it's a neat idea.

If you have a printer this is cool. If you dont its still not bad. The FCG chasis itself is steel which is good but you can do a nylon grip or that fluxy design thing. I dont see options as a bad thing.
