Looking for the best Sig Sauer 9mm pistol
I agree with the many posts above that the 226 is the quintessential and iconic Sig model.

But "best" is very subjective.

So to throw out another thought, my personal favorite Sig and also iconic IMHO, is the P 239. I believe the slide is steel, frame is not, and don't know if it was ever offered in stainless finish.

Personally the 229 is my #1 SIG

but when it's not 'hammer time', I do love a 320

If going with a P220, P226, or P229 make sure you know which version. There is an almost Endless number of guns available for each.

I'll add to the P226 X5 crowd. The armorer at the federal building in Chicago told my brother in law (a judge) that it was the finest pistol he'd seen.

I’m a fan of the P210s though I've only owned American versions.
If you’re a 1911 fan you’ll probably enjoy it too.
It’s certainly an heirloom quality firearm.

The carry version has an aluminum frame but the others are all stainless steel as far as I know (American versions).

Interesting topic indeed.

My all-time favorite is the P210, in particular a Swiss P210-6 HD. A considerable amount north of $2k these days for a nice one, I'm afraid. Wink The ultimate of All Things SIG in my book. And the P210 is my choice for the best-looking pistol of all time, period.

For focusing on an 'everyday' SIG, I'm with Z06; the P229 in just about any form is my "bestest" choice. More versatility with calibers if one buy's a .40/.357SIG version, balances just spot-on for me, and although a somewhat girthy mutha-sucka, still a doable, carryable IWB pistol even on my 5'-8" 180lb frame size, though admittedly it wouldn't be my first choice--or high as tenthteen choice--for the task. And there are variants in full stainless, though to me that's not necessarily a must-have to experience the inherent goodness that the P229 already displays in spades.

Another vote for the P226.

It has the most variety of the lineup and can be customized to the way you'd want it.

The P210 can be crazy accurate right out of the box.

The P220 is like the P226, but you can swap the barrel and magazine to make it a .38 Super.

The P938 is great for carry.

Let us know what you decide.

Some interesting points, but I am not sure about accuracy on the P220 reference.

I thought that, to change from a P220 .45acp to .38Super [or 9mm], you need to change the locking block [due to feed ramp position/angle], barrel, slide, slide stop and magazine?

I admit to having a P220 in .45 and another in .38Super [with a 9mm P226 barrel to make it a 9mm P220].

However, my P220 .45 is a 'carry' model, so the barrel/slide/frame are different from the full-sized P220, as it was explained to me. I haven't tried swapping top ends and stuff, as I didn't want anything to go wrong.

HOWEVER, a P220 .38Super can become a 9mm by simply swapping in a P226 9mm barrel. That I HAVE tried.

To OP- good luck!

Narrowing down the search to the 'best' handgun is always subjective, and thus prone to multiple interpretations.

I haven't shot enough Sig 9mm handguns to have anything to add to what was mentioned.

"Best" well that is opinion based.

I like the P239. Of many Sigs I've owned perhaps 30+ .. it's the only "Sig" I currently Own.

Honorable mention to the 225/P6 and 220 Yes I like the single stack Sigs best... and the ones that are not PLASTIC

I'm a P239 fan too. I don't know if I'd choose it for my one & only SIG but the DA/SA is the gun I've had in my collection the longest.

To me, an heirloom Sig would be a classic in either P210, P220, P226, or P228, pre-2000's made in Germany with stamped slides. But that's just me.

Only own the vintage made in Germany stamped slide P226 & P228. Got bad experience on the milled slide P226 which I got rid off.

Things change. My kids shoot. Both prefer a plastic, striker fired, High capacity gun.
Maybe the next generation will recognize the merits of metal, hammer fired guns. Especially the merits of single stacks.

Stickman438 may be in the minority but I agree to P229 just fits my hand.
Which configuration will depend upon your needs and tastes.
Someday, I hope to find the SSE version for myself.

Too many SIGs .. ... Nah not really
