STEYR ATC Rock 5” and 6” pistols - Looks a lot like a SIG - Anyone one have
Just saw where these pistols were recently introduced and to me this design looks a lot like one of the old now discontinued German X5’s. Was wondering if anyone has one. Not that I can afford one, but thought I would share with the forum a photo of this new pistol.

Is it competition with the big CZ pistols? It does have a striking appearance and the ever useless and gaudy cheese grater rail.

That was the announcement thread. I'm out because it doesn't take P226 or P320 mags so it can have one of those stupid ambi magazine release where if you push one side in, the other side moves and depending how you grip the pistol, you could block the mag release on the other side.

They're rebranded (at least*) AREX pistols, which were a fairly well-made knockoff of 22X SIGs that were made in Slovenia.

*I don't know if Steyr provided any improvements or not.

They are Slovenian. They are a deluxe version of the Arex Alpha that’s been around several years. Built by Arex, branded by Steyr

Dan - Thanks for posting this. My apology to all for my repost on this.
Para - If this thread needs to be deleted I understand. I actually did not do a search before posting so this is 100% my fault. Lesson learned.

For what it's worth, I have an AREX Alpha that I got in probably 2018 and it's a really solid pistol. The machining is very good, and it's super accurate.

I wander if this is why you can’t find a m9-a1 magazine to save your life right now, maybe they stopped making them to make mags for this?

Doubtful as Arex had nothing to do with the Steyr M9-A1.

The most impressive thing is how they got three mags stacked properly to balance that gun nice and level on a rock.....

Does look just like an X5 Sig....

This gun has basically nothing to do with old Steyr Austria

The Czech investment group RSBC (parent company of AREX Defense) acquired Steyr Arms in April of 2024 and they are now related companies.

I have handled this pistol and thought it had nice fit and finish. I have yet to shoot one.

ohh a slimline steyr ala G48 or P365 would be great.

but now I've only made myself sad, that'll never happen.

I sincerely hope that Steyr (even if they’re under new ownership) will soon come up with something of their own again in this sphere (fingers crossed for a next-gen MCLS) and make it in Austria. I don’t mind these ATC pistols functionally (they’re actually pretty cool), but I don’t find them particularly exciting (by virtue of being clones) and I hate to see Steyr being reduced to just a marketing name.

Fun fact. I was in Steyr 10 days ago. Such a beautiful, but dying town. I really hope they can turn it around, perhaps with a lot of new manufacturing.

I read years ago that at least one of the former designers from Sig DE's Mastershop was hired by Arex to design their Alpha and other competition pistols, so the resemblance & influences to Sigs should not come as a surprise.
