Sig ships the pistol with a 2mm hex key. Online comments frequently mention than the hex head strips out. I found that despite everything I did, the head head was starting to strip. I did use heat to break the Loctite, first from a 60 watt soldering iron, then a butane powered soldering iron.

A T8 torx bit fit better than the 2mm hex. If you strip the hex head, pounding in a T9 would probably work.

The screws came right out using T8, the opposite of using the "correct" tool. I purchased a Snap-On T8 driver socket, but a Wiha T8 bit is 1/10th the price and probably just as good.

I just stripped out a set myself. I called warranty service and have a pair coming. I get why they went small but they might have overdone the small. My next 365 build is going to be a plain Jane no optics cut version.

Similar experience...

One come out fine. The other one was rounded by the allen.

I ended up pounded in a torx bit and was able to remove the screw.
If I didn't have some of the speciality tools, it wouldn't have come out.

Sig definitely needs to use a better grade screw (with a torx head).

I took mine back to the dealer and let them get the screws out. It was obvious the tool supplied with the pistol was not a good fit and the screw's socket started to strip out when any torque was applied. Dealer suggested I call Sig and get replacement screws since mine were no longer usable.

Hmm. It sounds like anyone attempting this is likely to need new screws no matter what. Can anyone suggest aftermarket replacement screws that would fit neatly but not be as likely to get stripped?

McMaster-Carr has a selection of stainless metric button head torx drive screws, from M1.6 up to M8. The length can be cut off to fit. I don't know if the button head would work for you. They also have hex drive socket head screws, from M1.4 up.
