Went into the safe yesterday and found my old P226 Elite to take to the range. I have not fired this pistol in over ten years but I found that it no longer has a double action pull. I do believe my son fired this a few times, but he never indicated a problem. The case is marked ”E26-R-BSE, P226, 40, Elite, Slite, SRT” I put a Sig357 barrel in it when first purchased. The single action trigger works fine as does the de-cocker.

Before I take it apart I thought there might be some experience with this problem on the forum and any advice would be appreciated.

Look and see if the trigger bar return spring under the right grip has jumped off.

Do you have an E2 grip on your pistol? If you have ever taken off/put on the E2 grips, they can cause a huge issue by compressing the trigger bar spring and causing the gun to malfunction. There are a few videos on Youtube or use the search function here, to see how to use the "credit card" technique on the E2 grips when removing them/installing them, so that it doesn't screw up your trigger spring. I would order a couple trigger bar springs, as they are cheap and replace it on the gun.

I agree with the others that it sounds like a trigger bar spring problem. Remove the right grip pa el and inspect...it should look kind of like this (not my photo). The hammer pin (the big fat one) also need to be protruding out the right side of the frame for the trigger bar to ride against it.

Will buy a trigger bar spring and give it a try. No E2 grip. Thanks for the suggestions.

What's the matter with your current TBS? Is it deformed somehow? If yours looks like the one in the pic above hooked up correctly, then the TBS is not the problem.

Next, check the hammer reset spring. See if it's broken, or, if you have taken the gun apart completely previously, see if it was put back correctly.
