Stupid Allergy |
I have zero experience with FN’s. I know there are some that like them here a few haters, something about play dough frames? Anyway, the 509 Tacticals RMR mounting system is very interesting looking. Anyone handled one yet? https://www.google.com/amp/www...ical-9mm-pistol/amp/ "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

Some things you should know. The 509 is a very good shooter. Replacement mags are ridiculously expensive. Their Customer service is abysmally bad. Just so you know ______________________________________________ Life is short. It’s shorter with the wrong gun…

Not sure about the RMR version though it looks cool. I have a FNS 9mm and it is pretty nice. No issues thus far other than had a magazine that was very hard to load and I called customer service who promptly sent me a label and switched it out. Was not what I was expecting based on what I read about FN, but I’ve been impressed.

I had a 509. Was missing a backstrap when I bought it. Contacted FN CS to register the gun and reported the issue. They told me they would send one out. Contacted them a month later to inquire about the backstrap. CS told me someone would call me back. A week later I contacted them again. They took all the pertinent info again and informed me a backstrap would be forthcoming. That was three months ago. No backstrap Sorry, FN customer service is by a long margin, the worst I’ve ever had to interact with. FN translates to Caveat emptor... ______________________________________________ Life is short. I had to send my SCAR 17 to them, took them 6 weeks to tell me my 17 was sitting somewhere at the service dept bc someone didn't follow the proper procedure to establish a correct intake of a rifle repair....

I've heard the nightmare stories of FN CS. But then I've heard bad HK CS too and they were terrific. I haven't shot a 509, much less the tactical. But I had fun shooting the FNS9, even though I couldn't put my finger on exactly what I liked. It didn't have an awesome trigger or anything, it was just fun to shoot. Center target is 15 rds at 7yds, smaller are 5 rds each at 10yds on a rental: ------------------------------------------------ Charter member of the vast, right-wing conspiracy

I have not handled the Tactical, but the regular 509 had a "meh" trigger at best. I don't know what it offers that the striker fired pistols that have been out for the last 30 years don't. What, me worry?

I've not shot the 509 enough to form a firm opinion; one partial mag isn't quite enough for me. But comparing it against my FNS-9 I can at least roughly do. When it comes to the tangibles I don't see what the 509 offers that makes it vastly superior to the older stablemate, unless being 'modular' is a thing that just makes one's life complete. Having been one and done with the SIG 320, I know that person ain't me. Trigger actions are about the same, though I think my FNS feels a little crisper, but not significantly so as to declare it the winner. Both are at best average striker 'meh' when put up against guns like the TP9SF, PPQ or VP9. The 509's slide form is better if front serrations are your thing. FN never went 'tacticool-tactical' with the FNS series, so that's a plus in the 509's column if loading up all sorts of crap on your pistol is a bullet item for you to check off. One downer is the magazines; why FNH had to make the 509's mags incompatible with the FNS-9 is beyond me; same mag body but different bases? Really FN? Why? For someone who already owns a FNS-9, IMHO the 509 really doesn't offer any features that's that markedly better to make it some kind of must-have. Some aspects like the trigger actually seems a bit worse. But if you like how either handles and need to have the lil' bro in '9 mike mike' to the FNX-45 Tactical except without the Gumby frame (the 509's polymer is harder and less pliable, more like the FNS and a lot less like the 'no fun in da hot sun' FNX-45's), then the 509 Tactical is probably the pistol for you. A shame it doesn't have as many variations of FDE on it as the SCAR does; then it would REALLY make it 'The Tandem to Have' when the zombie North Koreans come a runnin' for you. I'll stick with my Glocks, thanks much.

I shot it at a rental range and I actually liked it. It shot well for 100 rounds. The price of extra magazines was the deal breaker for me. I like to have 10 for every pistol. Much more after market stuff for the Glock.

Rail-less and Tail-less |
My problem is charging $400 extra for a threaded barrel and rmr cut. I have seen plain Jane 509’s with nights ughts for $430-459 _______________________________________________ Use thumb-size bullets to create fist-size holes.

I prefer the FNS-9 over the 509. The FNS9 has a full length rail which maintains control over the slide longer during the firing cycle. ______________________________________________ Life is short. It’s shorter with the wrong gun…
