I can’t decide if I want the rubber grips with the finger grooves or no finger grooves.

I like the OEM grips but they seem slippery to me. I like the size of them. I know the hogues add some width.

I have tried the hogue G10 grips but they were a little too sharp for me and I didn’t want to sand them.

What do y’all think?

If you have larger hands, the finger grooves are a bit small.

'Bout the same size as the grooves on a Glock (that I also find to be smallish).

I’d say my hands are medium sized. The finger groves on gen 4 G19 didn’t fit me but the gen 4 G17 were fine.

I had a set many years ago and they were too sticky and wide for me. (Sticking a bit to clothing when concealed.)

So these are not inexpensive, but they had the right feel for me. Grayguns had Hogue "tone down" the texture and I find it's quite good.

If you’re talking the slip on ones, I am not a big fan. I have big ole monkey hands and prefer girth in the grips. First P229 I had the slip on and it kept sliding down. Never caused a malfunction, but I kept an eye on it. Once Hogue launched the overmolded ones, I love them.

Now if you’re just looking for extra grip, try the rubberized Talons. With the P320, I got the large size grips, Talons, and then they made a slip on that was special made for the P320. It was HARD to get on, with the L grip and Talons. Literally took me an hour. Probably gotta cut them off if I change my mind.

Can’t find the pic I was thinking of, so here it is with other strikers:

The PPQ has Talons too.

Oh wow! I really like those. I wish they were all black. Thank you for sharing as I had no idea these even existed.

Buddy, no, I don’t care for the slip ons.

I thought seriously about Talons but I worry about them peeling off the plastic factory grips with carry time. Although, I know if that hope s I can always hit them with some heat and they should re-adhere.

They're cheap. Why not buy both?

For a range gun the finger groove p226 & 228/9 grips are ok but i also cannot stand the rubbery/grippy feel. They cling on and dragon clothing and everything they touch which i hate.

My preference is Hogue G-10, I also find the checkered texture to grippy and uncomfortable but like the traditional look. I have also had issues with them deforming from grip screw tightening. The finger grooved rubber grips are ideal fit for the P239 40/357 but over tightening the screws and the grips contacting the trigger bar and causing issues is pretty common. I have often thought that if Hogue would make finger grooved grips out of G-10 material I would still own one of the many P239’s in 9mm and 40/357 i have owned and sold cause they just never were a comfortable fit.

The Piraña texture is the best of both worlds for my use. They are grippy but comfortable with dry or sweaty hands and against my shin.

Just a note about G-10 material. Don't be afraid to take sand paper or emory cloth after them to knock down any points or edges. Just knock the dust off and use WD-40 or light oil on them and your good to go. I have taken the sharp edges and corners off all of my grips with no issues. Of course i do it off the gun as to not chance touching the guns finishes.

Over the years I have owned Hogue rubber finger grooved grips in P 226/8/9 and 239 along with several over grip finger grooved sleeves but in the end they never stayed around long term. Its Hogue G-10 piranha all the way for me on my S&W J-frames, P226/8/9 and Beretta 96G.

They are both more bulky than the stock plastic grips. The Hogue rubber finger groove one will add a little more measurements than the 2-panel rubber grips for obvious reason.

Personally, I can't stand either one, because they're both sticky (due to the rubber) but at the same time slippery (due to the smooth surface) in my hand.

Not all black, but close. Here is a P229...

I've used Talon grips for years now and never had a pair come off unless I took them off. I really like the Pro model. Having said all that, I wouldn't mind trying those Gray Guns grip. As soon as they go on sale that is.

Yep, same here. Once I ground the grooves off my two G19 Gen4's, they were just fine. It's not a comfort thing, it's a high points on the grip causing displacements thing.

No offense to anybody, but grips are a very personal issue for every shooter. It's more complicated than just hand size. After over 50 years of shooting pistols and revolvers, I've concluded one thing. Ya don't know until you ACTUALLY TRY THEM!

It's like going on a forum and asking what type of woman would be best for you to marry.

I appreciate everyone’s replies. Perhaps I shall give G10s another try. Thank you Mustang for the explanation on sanding them down. I think I’ll try it out!

I recently put some E2 grips on my 228 and 229 and like them much more than either the stock factory grips or the G10s. They significantly reduce the width of the grip and the texture seems just rough enough.

If the "sharpness" on the G1's is an issue, try just shooting it for a while. If necessary, use shooting gloves. You can then use a dash of sandpaper later, if necessary. I have several sets of G10's and all of them softened somewhat after a little bit of shooting. Good luck.

BTW, the big appeal of the G10's for me is the texture on the back straps. I add skateboard tape on the front and it locks in the gun nicely under recoil, giving better control.
