Decided to take this out to the range yesterday along with my new Fort Smith .32 PPK. It ran flawlessly with S&B, Fiocchi and Remington ammo. A couple of interesting facts about this gun: 1). Even though it is a P230, it has a rebound hammer. A P 230 does not have this feature' but the P232 models do. This rebound hammer is necessary so that the safety lever can be utilized. 2) .380 magazines work just fine. In fact, I am not sure I can pick out a .32 cal magazine out of my large stash of 232 and 230 magazines. I really like the .32 ACP round. If you can find one of these at a reasonable price, take it home. Trooper Joe

The mags are identical. I own two of these; one of which I swapped for a normal hammer to fix the crappy trigger and also had to mod the inside of the area where the hammer sits to remove the hump used to house the detent for the safety. I also had the slide refinished in CPII Dusk by CCR as it was well worn. I had a mint/NIB I sold before I found this one as I didn't feel right modifying one so pristine. I've tended to do that for stuff I want to modify so as to preserve the mint specimens of any Sig model (they're not making more Westies, no matter what comes out of NH) And with it's stablemates (one of the stainless guns has a modified 32acp P232 barrel in it which came NOS from Numrich many years ago)

I've always wanted one of these Japanese 230's in .32 cal but could never lay my hands on one. I do have a 232 in 7.65 that hasn't been fired to my knowledge. The folks at Sig CS say that there was never a P232 built in 7.65 that they were aware of for FWTW.

That is pretty neat. How does the safety work? Is it operated by flipping the lever up or down for safe?

Only in 32acp. Same thing of course but I bought a spare new/old stock barrel from Numrich. I had to have the extract cut milled out for the larger P230 style since it's larger. That's proof right there Sig CS doesn't know what was made in Germany, only what was sold as complete guns in the states. edit for link: https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/887120

Here is an article about Japanese police handguns. It focuses on revolvers but does have a passage on the P230. https://www.thetruthaboutguns....se-service-revolver/
