In another post I had asked about a reverse two-tone finish and if it came from Germany that way. I don't have the original case, so that wasn't much help. I took a few pictures since I do not know much about how pistol frames may be refinished. It looks like it was blued first and then another finish added. Looking in the magazine well, it is evenly applied, so I'd guess some type of dipped finish as opposed to spray-on like Cerakote. Would a nickel frame be blued first at Sig, or was this done later? Why would there be the large spot over the take-down lever? I'm contemplating having it re-refinished, and was wanted to get an idea of what was done the first time and by whom. This is an Exeter, NH frame marked made in Germany. Sig did not have any information on it. Thanks Same angle, better light:

Every SIG from the 90s that came from Germany were originally “blued”. SIG then decided which model and how many to be nickel plated and sent them to Klein in Erie, PA for plating. The original blue and the frame anodization had to be stripped before plating can be done. The result is a uniformly plated gun. There are no leftover black spots. I’m talking specifically about the Klein nickel plated SIGs only. What’s going with your gun, it’s anyone’s guess as to who did what to it, since SIG has no info and you have no original case. Is it made in Germany or made in West Germany? ------- Trying to simplify my life...

Plating is a process in which the product is immersed in a few tanks of various chemicals. It is not, to me, dipping the item. Much more like a brief bath. To do so, the item is suspended by a durable but replaceable rod, rack, wire, etc. Total guesswork here, but at a reputable plater other than Sig, the suspending rod or wire might have passed through the takedown lever hole, and in some fashion blocked the plating molecules from attaching to the frame. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

Thanks for the info. The frame is Germany. When I spoke to Sig, they said it was pre-2005 since they did not have a record of it.

Ever seen a West German Sig with a rail? Is that a thing? anothercuervo the slide wear looks a little like the P229 SAS had done in CCR's Cerahide. I didn't shoot it much before I sold it. Looks like the same mark around the takedown lever.

But seriously, a factory made West German SIG with a rail doesn't exist. Not that one has ever been seen, anyway. Q
