Doing some research and am finding a lot of brick walls in my (admittedly rather esoteric) quest for information… I am trying to get some info on who designed the D100 Derringer for High Standard in the 1960s. It seems like the all of the books and most all of the online info deals with their auto pistols, which makes sense, but not much help if I want to write about the derringer! Any suggestions on where to look? Thanks Bill R

It's interesting that there's a ton of info out there about this gun, I can find nothing about who designed it. I've had one since around 1970 or so in .22WMR. Great deep concealment gun.

great little pistols, I have my Dad's, a gent by the name of Alan Aronstein was on several boards, and he was part of the High Standard group in Tx IIRC, you may try to reach out to him thru a website associated with him https://interarmstx.com/ or try John Stimson. he took down his Forum, but I have been told you can reach out to him for info, he apparently had the older High Standard archive info, https://www.histandard.info/ https://chandlersfirearms.com/chesterfield-armament/

Didn't see any patent info for H-S but I think Bellmore Johnson Tool bought the rights to the derringer, you might try to contact them for info... http://www.bellmorejohnson.com/contact

Satisfied a bit of my curiosity, too. BTW, American Derringer produced a very similarly designed model in .38 and 357 called the "DA 38."

Interesting question, even more interesting that the info is hard to find. I love mine, though it has not been carried in a long time now that I have a NAA mini-revolver. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

My wife had one. It developed the habit of only firing alternating shots. One would fire, the other would barely go "click." Gunsmith found a hairline crack in the frame. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Thanks! I will try reaching out to those guys. It seems like this is one of those guns that a lot of people are "aware of", but there isn't a huge amount if in depth information on them. Half the reason I wanted to include them in my project. Considering how much of a departure from everything else made previously by HS, I really want to get into some of the back story regarding the inception and development. Bill R

The High Standard Derringer was designed and patented by Fred Stevens. In Conjunction with Robert Hillberg, Stevens also developed the C.O.P. derringer
