Just randomly stopped by a pawnshop I didn't know was there. They had a Trailside on the wall for $425.00. I asked the sales guy to grab it for me. He said wow, no one has asked to see it since I've worked here. Looked like it had been pretty well used, but no major marks or scratches. I worry about buying a gun that is prone to break with no history on it. Opened my wallet, I had $270.00 in there, offered that. They countered for $315.00. I said if you don't sell it in a month I'll check back. Should I turn around and go back? It looked like it had been shot, but no abused. No target, no box. 6" model with rubber grips. I'd happily pay that if I knew round count and how much HV ammo has been through it. Thoughts? Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

I wouldn't pay a $1 for one. OK I'm willing to go to $100. Not that I don't love mine. But support via Larry is now likely gone. If it runs and you get some joy from it great, but the price better reflect that if it dies (and they do) you aren't going to recover. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Buy a Buckmark instead. Much better gun. (I have both BTW.)

I have two of them. I got one new for around $450. A second used for $350. I only use standard velocity in these as the trigger guard absorbs the end of the recoil and some have had cracks in them, supposedly. Now that the Exesse replaces these in European production, replacements can be had. There have also been complaints that the mag release wears on the plastic mags. You'll want to depress it inserting mags to reduce wear. But for that price, I can see myself grabbing it. The only problem I have is that of the two I have, the mags are not quite the same. They don't snap in w/ the same mag release recession. The only time I've had a failure w/ the one I used to shoot regularly was when I shot it completely dirty after several range visits and then changed ammo brand. They shoot better than my buckmark 5.5 https://www.guns.com/news/review/sig-trailside

I also have both. I love both. I'm surprised first two responses were not happy with theirs. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Yeah, my second "Sig" that has lost support. That's 3/6 I own. But since Xesse is going across the pond, are not parts available?

What pawn shop? The only one I know that was selling guns changed ownership and had their gun wall locked up after (thought maybe they had an FFL issue). Most around these parts don't seem to have much worth stopping in for.

I didn't even know it was there, LC Pawn, below pool hall in Sterling. If you rush now you can pick up the mosquito they had on the wall. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

that's the same one I was referring to....weird hours and the gun wall has been closed there for a few months. Might start going by again...scored a few good deals there before they changed hands you didn't grab the trailside? I've wanted one for awhile but have a lot of nice 22's I never shoot anymore

Didn't get it yet. If I was buying from someone who could tell me how many rounds and if HV ammo was used I would have picked it up at their full price which is what they sold for new. I'll go back in a week or two and offer $300 maybe. The two mags it came with are worth $80, they appeared to be in good shape. If you want to try out a trailside you are more than welcome to try mine. It's a joy to shoot and makes amazing groups, even in my unsteady hands. Wife can completely take out the x ring with it. I haven't been to the new Silver Eagle Group location yet, I could use an excuse. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Cool. LC is closed on weekends....guess their new hours only coincide with job-less customers (12-5 M-F)

That pawn shop actually opens at 11am - and I was there at opening on yesterday (Friday - 12/21). I live a couple miles from there and stop by every now and then. At that point, the Trailside was still available. Personally, I have no interest in it. Yes, the gun section was closed for over 6 months after they lost their gun salesperson. Glad it is open again, but I have never been there at the right time to buy something (currently looking for a Browning Hi Power or S&W 39-2). kas

I have the trailside and xeese. Both are made by hammereli. The xeese has a few updates. The trailside came in a 4 and 6-inch version, each version had two options for sights. fixed and adjustable. adjustable is prefered. I added a 90-gram weight to the front of mine, it helped really tame it down and bring the groups in together. Both guns are stupidly accurate. Larrys guns sell tuning parts (triggers, barrel weights, grips) and magazines.

awesome! I've loved them forever and the 6" is best as I'd run the weight. I might try to pop over on Monday....kinda odd to be closed on weekends.

Good, prevent me from buying it. Update us if you do/don't. If you don't get it I may still pick it up. DSG, mine looks just like yours on the right, also with the weight from Larry's, can't remember how many grams though. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Its not clear what will happen to Larry's guns and the parts channel following his death. Up to this point Larry has had the parts I've needed to keep my two trailsides running. Its a nice gun for what it is intended provided you understand its orphan status. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

I owned several of the Trailside pistols at one point and in many thousands of rounds of fire grew to really like the platform. Things to look out for on used ones: 1. Make sure the striker has not peened the barrel surface. The Trailside should not be dry fired and former owners doing so can have damaged it. 2. Check for premature wear or cracks on the slide stop assembly. The slide stops are cast and are prone to breakage. At this point, finding parts may be more of a challenge than it used to be. 3. Magazine wear and cracks. These mags are plastic and do not seem to be a super durable formulation. I noticed wear at the back of the magazine and feed lips. Of those issues, the biggest issue that would keep me from buying would be finding one that had been dry fired/peened.

What? Larry has passed? Has someone taken over, or is the shop gone? Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

yes on Larry. Don't have any info on the other questions. The shop is there with nothing unusual visible on the outside (I went by last week) and this Thursday when I drive by it on my way to a match I will stop in and ask for any update. I suspect that someone will fill in and continue but that's just conjecture on my part. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”
