When you refer to the 228 I assume you are referring to the original 13 round, folded slide and short extractor model and not the current M11-A1 which SIG puts on grips with the markings "228?" I assume that the current M11-A1 should be close in durability to the 229, with the 229 being more durable since it is also machine for 357 SIG and 40 S&W.

All of the posts are helping me move towards my next SIG but whether it will be a 229 or another M11-A1 is something I am still pondering.

Thanks again and happy shooting.

As was already mentioned by someone early in this discussion, the M11-A1 is essentially a 9mm P229 (not a P228) except with no rail, phosphated internals, and a standard SRT. I'm not sure the phosphated parts add much to durability. So unless you want a different caliber than 9mm, or you want a rail, I would just buy another M11-A1.

Here comes a throw from center field. I recently stumbled onto a 229C in 9mm. It almost immediately, after I wrung it out, replaced my cherished 228 as my carry gun.

Nothing wrong with having more than one copy of a model;

I love my 229C, it is in 357 sig but it is a great little carry piece

229 C. In 40. My favorite semi auto, ever. I’d love to find a 9mm Barrel for this, 3.5 inch, just to see what it’ll feel like.
