Man of few words |
Back 30 years or so ago I was a teenager and was visiting my brother in Florida. While there I started showing an interest in guns (he was in the Air Force and was stationed there during this time.) He said would teach me to shoot but had one stipulation: I had to learn about guns and gun safety prior to shooting. While visiting him I was given magazines and books on guns to read and I read and learned everything I could. We discussed safety and I remember going with him and his friend to the range after that but don't remember when or how old I was at the time. Fast forward a few years later and my brother and I talked again and I told him I wanted to get a gun(I think I was 19 at the time.) He didn't want me to buy junk and offered me his W. German P220 that he had had some custom work done on. He had had it two toned and hammer/trigger work done to it. Of course I accepted it and that became my very first gun and 1st of many P220's. Ever since then I've been a huge 220 fan. A few years later I too joined the Air Force, and while gone, sent my guns to my brother who had since gotten out of the AF(at that time I think I had the P220, 2 Remington 870's and a Ruger GP100(which he bought for me as well.)) After my time in the AF, I gave the 220 back to my brother along with one of the 870's. He fell on hard times and had to sell the 220 to pay for bills but found it in a pawn shop a year or so later and bought it back and gave it back to me a 2nd time I kept that 220 for the next 20 years but always knew it belonged back with my brother. Through the years I was able to buy a few more guns, but as late as 2013 I think I was down to 3 or 4 guns because of money issues. In 2014 I was laid off after 16.5 years and was able to pay off all of my bills and started acquiring a few more guns. In July of 2017 I got a job making better money and I knew it was time to give the 220 back to my brother. After talking with my him around the Spring of 2018, I sent the 220 back to him. I then went on a tear and ended up buying 6 more 220's in the next 6 months or so (I had 3 other 220's that I had gotten between 2015 - 2018.) I've also added a 320 compact 45 and a 365 for good measure. In case anyone is wondering - my brother is also a member of SigForum but posts infrequently. Hopefully he sees this post and chimes in. Left to right, top to bottom: W. German blued, W. German blued, W. German Nickel American 2 tone, ST, SAS Equinox, Scorpion, Desert Black I really do like the railess Sigs much better but think the ST, Equinox Scorpion and Desert Black are very nice as well but I'll never use a light on them. I've changed the grips on the SAS to Hogue whites but haven't gotten an updated family photo since. With my 320 and 365

My other Sig is a Steyr. |
Cool! I kinda like the P220 also. Every now and then there is a need for an extra 9mm (this is one of those times) along with some checkered aluminum grips, a fat guide rod, extra mags... The West German Nickel is one that I'd be proud to have in my collection and your Grips on the ST are awesome. Perhaps your bro will chime in and tell us more history of his Sig.

P220 was my first handgun and first sig. my dad bought it for me when I was about 14. Love that Sig. they don’t make them like that anymore unfortunately. Regards, P.

Gracie Allen is my personal savior! |
Very nice. I knew I wanted a 226, and that was my first Sig. Then I knew I wanted a 220 and finally traded in a Colt when I could get an ST. If only I'd known enough to grab 220s in the other calibers too then!

Thank you for sharing your story and your collection. You have a wonderful collection. The P220 is my favorite platform within the Sig Sauer line. I realize it is not the best for everyone, but it works well for me. Niech Zyje P-220 Steve

I have a few other SIGs but have never owned, nor even fired, a P220. I just picked one up in a trade, have not been to the range yet, but I am certainly looking forward to it. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Thank you for the kind words everyone. I really like all of them but picking a favorite is like picking your favorite kid. If I had to pick 1 favorite it would be the nickel followed closely by the Scorpion. I didn't mean for the post to be so long but my love for the 220 goes way back and they are very near and dear to my heart because of my brother's sacrifice. I don't think in my time on SF I ever shared that story and after seeing all of the sweet Sigs bolo4tom has posted recently it spurred me to share pics of my 220's and the reason behind why I love them so much.

This is a great post! Thanks! Nice collection. It sounds like you have a wonderful brother, too. A W. German P220 was my second-ever duty weapon back in 1994. A gunsmith friend of mine at the time was known for outstanding trigger jobs in S&W revolvers and semi-autos. He'd never been exposed to Sig Sauer, but being young, I let him do a trigger job on my P220 anyway. When he brought the P220 back to me, and I remember this vividly, he said, "That handgun ain't nothing but high quality! I am impressed!" I was, too, because his trigger job was magnificent. I shot 487/500 on my first LE qual with it not knowing what the hell I was doing. That P220's accuracy just made me look better than I was. With my old wrists and forearms now, it's hard for me to shoot well, but the P220 will always be the flagship Sig Sauer for me.
