What is the mag well of choice for 1911s on the forum. Got a factory DW, a cheap Wilson grip screw model that came on a Rock Island and a couple Fusions (not really impressed). I am looking to do about 7 pistols, not all at this time, so any recommendations are appreciated. Will need both black and SS.

I shopped some magwells for my two Kimbers a while back. Kimber makes a solid magwell and some matching carbon fibre grips. My OCD made me buy the magwell from the same manufacturer as the 1911, so the 10mm and 17mach2 are now sporting OEM magwells. DW should have something worthwhile that catches your eye.
I'm going to get a 1911 in 45ACP someday...

I have / have had Smith & Alexanders on several guns.
Actually I kind of sell the guns and keep the magwells. lol The above picture has an STI Spartan with a Dawson ICE (i assume you don't want something like that). The S&A on the Para used to be on the Spartan. The one on the Trojan in the middle is now on the Baer. The Trojan and the Para are gone.. but the magwell is here, waiting for a new home.

Yeah, I'm not really looking for a competition piece like the Dawson. I kinda figured either S&A or Wilson Combat would be the top choices.

I have the Smith & Alexander on mine, and I love it.

I installed five Smith & Alexander one piece magwells on my 1911's, I got them on E-Bay for around $68.00 each. Here is a photo of two that i did.

DW magwell on my 9mm Specialist - have used it in a couple competitions (IPSC) now and it's worked well. And with 9mm, 10rd magazines sit flush.

The 2 piece EGW is exelent. The well connects to the MSH by a dovetail. No screw to come loose. The new one piece Ed Brown is expensive, but excellent fit and finish.

This is not really something I'm too familiar with, but I was impressed with Stan Chen when I met him and the product quality and design seemed really good.
Evil exists. You can not negotiate with, bribe or placate evil. You're not going to be able to have it sit down with Dr. Phil for an anger management session either.

I like the Chen wells also, but I believe they require removing material from the frame to attach the magwell. I am not really interested in doing that just now.
