MA compliant pistol question
Looking to purchase a Smith Wesson 1911 E SC .45 pistol. Description says MA Compliant.
What exactly does that mean as far as the physical pistol? Crazy CA stuff, or just an ok on their list?

* Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI)
* 10-round max capacity
* 10.5-lb trigger pull on guns without manual safety

Wow really? Would that apply to the single action of a DA/SA pistol as well basically making it DAO??

Basically it has to do with "childproofing", so it would apply only to the (initial) DA pull on a DA/SA gun. SIG DA/SA pistols have that 10.5-lb DA pull, anyway, so, it's a moot requirement. On striker-fired pistols, however, either have the manual safety or must raise the trigger pull weight to minimum of 10 lbs.

Here is the exact wording from 940 CMR 16.05(2):

quote:
It shall be an unfair or deceptive practice for a handgun-purveyor to transfer or offer to
transfer to any customer located within the Commonwealth any handgun which does not contain
a mechanism which effectively precludes an average five year old child from operating the
handgun when it is ready to fire; such mechanisms shall include, but are not limited to: raising
trigger resistance to at least a ten pound pull, altering the firing mechanism so that an average
five year old child's hands are too small to operate the handgun, or requiring a series of multiple
motions in order to fire the handgun.

So, since OP's wanted gun is a 1911, all it needs to be MA compliant is that it has the Mass hole (the LCI), since the capacity is less than 10, and it has external safety.

On that particular handgun, it's the loaded-chamber indicator. It's a 1911 with a manual safety and the trigger pull is probably in the 4 - 5 pound range, just like any other off-the-shelf, production 1911.
