I ended up with an almost minty S&W Model 57 in 41 Rem Mag, 6” barrel. It was a local deal. I gave it a going over, even under the side-plate, clean & lubed. It’s early 80’s vintage. I may start my reloading as soon as today, with the rain coming. Have all the supplies from Midway. Now I’m thinking, one may not be enough. I may just add a 4.6” Blackhawk from Ruger. I realize with the 44 & 45 Colt, the 41 gets lost in the middle. I may even make some ‘snake-shot’ for the less common round, venomous only. Most loads will be on the mild-mid level for casual shooting.

Congratulations! I have a 657 and a Blackhawk & enjoy shooting them very much. I also reload the .41 mag cartridge and find it extremely versatile; allowing me to make very mild loads for "all-day" range shooting, full power loads for a few shots of "make my day" experimenting and lots of testing in between. I predict you'll have lots of happy shooting with the .41 mag. I have 2 57's, I sold my 58. The .41 is a great caliber. My favorite load is a cast swc and a medium amount of Unique.

I do not think that the 41 Magnum gets lost. There are plenty of enthusiasts around I acquired my first 41 Magnum in the 1980s by accident. A buddy has just purchased one when his wife hit him with divorce papers and he needed to raise some fast cash Once I shot it, that was the end. . . I was hooked on 41 MagnumsThis message has been edited. Last edited by: colt_saa, ------------------------------------------------------------------ NRA Benefactor . . . Certified Instructor . . . Thanks, looks like I have a ways to go with collecting. Never been scared of slightly rare chamberings. I’m soon to fine tune my 284 Winchester for a MI deer hunt. I just bring my own Ammo, no need to go to Walmart.

I recently acquired 2, M57 no dash, an 8 3/8" nickel and a 4" blue, and I'm also a big fan. https://i56.photobucket.com/al...3863_zpskm2wjczs.jpgThis message has been edited. Last edited by: Plinkasaurusrex,

I'm almost ashamed to admit I've never even fired, much less owned a .41mag. I want to every time I hear others go on with praises about them. Of the literal hundreds of guns owned over the years, thousands more fired....never a .41. hhmmppffff

As I have offered to other Forum members, if you ever vacation in Central Florida we can make that happen for you That group photo is perhaps a decade old, there there is much more to choose from Perhaps a little snubby fun? Or some Performance Center joy? Or even some Legendary accuracy For so many folks the 41 Magnum is the right balance of power and recoil. The cartridge is also extremely accurate in almost any platform that chambers it ------------------------------------------------------------------ NRA Benefactor . . . Certified Instructor . . . Colt_saa That Colt Python on the bottom of your photo is interesting. Knew a gun dealer in the mid-1980s who showed me his 41 Python(was a 41 fan even then). All I remember from his was the cylinder walls looked very thin, and that I wanted it! Would love to see Colt do an updated(ie affordable)version of the Python, especially in 41 Mag, but would most likely be on the Anaconda frame. It is good to wish for some things! I promise to quit now, unless I find a great local deal. I have two more 41 mags in the pipeline, a 5.5” Redhawk, 1986 vintage, and then a Blackhawk 4.6” barrel. At least one of them involved cruising Gunbroker after a few beers. I loaded up 100 rounds of ammo & bought another 100 cases. I did actually sell a few youth shotguns the other week. After setting up to reload I was thinking one 41 was a bit short.

I always wanted that .41 mag conversion for my DE, particularity that 10" colt_saa has..... tough to find these days. 115 + 115 = 230

^^^ Keep in mind that a .41 conversion requires the barrel, magazine, and the bolt. The barrel and magazine can be found every now and then, but the bolt for the .41 is nearly impossible. What caliber(s) do you have yours in now?

Well aware. .50 AE 6", .44 mag 10", & .357 mag 6" & 14". 115 + 115 = 230

Cool. There is a .41 six incher (not mine) being auctioned off on a popular firearms website at the moment. Had some of them for a while, then decided to go for the others. Lucked into the .440 barrels and started customizing. Thought about starting a DE thread, but I'd have to round them all up for a group photo. Mine start with a prototype and end just before the Khar era. Now if I found a 429 barrel for cheap...
