4MUL8RP229 40/357 converted to 9 range report
With no interest in retiring a P229 Legion in 357 Sig, I purchased an EFK Fire Dragon 40-to-9 conversion barrel here on the forum. Today I validated that the conversion works. No change other than the barrel. Zero issues. Sights were regulated as expected.
So, no need to rush out and purchase a new spring, new magazines, new sights, new anything.
I will shoot up the stock of 40 S&W practice ammo with one barrel, saving the 9mm ammo for other lead dispensers. This will allow me to work on recoil control, sight alignment, speed, etc. with the cheap practice ammo.
Then, after qualifying with 9mm pistol, I can now put the P229 into rotation as it will be a 9mm.
Glad I took the plunge on the conversion barrel and tested it first, before spending any more money.

4sigmanJust keep an eye out for feeding issues with the .40 mags using 9mm.

GT-40DOCI did the same conversion with a 9mm BarSto bbl. some time ago. I made no changes except the bbl. and have had zero problems since. I fell out of love with the 40cal. round, but still like the 357 Sig round.

abcdefMine is a non Legion 229 with EFK 40 to 9 conv bbl. Only the bbl was changed, I use .40/357 mags, extractor, springs etc. Never had a problem or malfunction. Recoil is noticeably lower with 9 ammo which works great with standard 40 recoil spring, shoots to POA at least up to 25 yds.

.38supersigNice!
It is nice that you didn't get any double feeds with the same magazines.
I had a whole lot more head scratching when converting a P227 to .38 Super.

slosigMy first pistol was a P229R that came from the factory in 40 S&W. Using the 40 S&W/357 Sig mags with a 9mm upper, I learned a few things:
1) 10 round CA legal magazines will hold up to 13 rounds.
2) The more rounds you put in the magazine (past 10), the less reliable.*
3) Counting rounds while loading mags for a class is a pain.
*with more rounds, it seemed like two rounds would bind up, stopping the spring after it had fed a round or two, leaving the rounds above loose and rattling around like a maraca and not feeding anymore.
After the first class, I bought some 9mm p228 mags.

229DAKIs the firing pin hitting the center of the 9mm primers?

10roundKeep an eye out for complete slides on sale at Sig. The just had a smoking black Friday sale with complete slides for $100 (none were cut for RDS). Easy transition to 9mm with a new slide.

Z06Sounds like a great move, now all you need is a .22lr conversion. :-) My first SIG firearm was a Classic .22 model P229 that came with a SIG discount coupon for the .40 S&W X-Change Kit for $299.99 shipped. Later I added the 9mm Elite slide/barrel + a .357 SIG barrel.

sig2392I had all three barrels.
I used to swap depending on my mood and what ammo I had on hand.
I never had a problem feeding or made any changes except the barrel and ammo.
The 9mm was a BarSto conversion barrel the other two barrels were Sig OEM.
I gave the gun to my son.

4MUL8RThanks for the tip to review primer indent location. Not much I can do, of course, and I think the barrel chamber is centered so it hopefully is the right position. I'll probably get two 9mm magazines from Mr. Cote.

Jeepster09Rather than buying finicky barrels, when I have converted I have just bought entire slide assembly from Sig or e-bay.

4MUL8RHaving a Legion with its unique slide color and already using two different barrels and finding the 9mm barrel at great price I chose this route.

4MUL8RThey do. But, I don't have a 9mm slide barrel. And, my belt and shoulder holsters don't fit the optic P229. As a system, I think I did OK with a 9mm conversion barrel for the existing pistol.
I enjoyed shooting it in 40 this week at a holster qualification course at the local range. Cheap ammo, easy to shoot, and plenty of magazines for 100 rounds downrange.
