I've owned my share of SIGs since the '80s, and liked them all. But if you're interested in something a cut above other current SIG models, you might consider one of the current production P210 Standard models. They really are very precisely fitted, cleanly machined in and out, have clean breaking triggers in the 3 1/4-3 1/2# range, and grips suitable for smaller hands. I realize that not having a hi-cap mag, accessory rail, FDE finish, challenge coin, etc.,they are not considered tacticool. But what the US 210s are, is a cut or two above any other current production SIGs I've owned or had the opportunity to handle......ymmv

BTW, I saw a NIB 210 Standard on Gun Broker at $1099.00 with no bids.

I recommend checking out https://gun.deals for lowest prices everywhere on the internet.

Plus www.gunsamerica.com, www.gunbroker.com, www.armslist.com are popular auction/sale sites

if you like the grip of 229 and you want to get something fancy, www.cdnnsports.com is selling new 229 9mm Elite Classic Carry w/NS + 3 magazines for only $679, usually 1100. Also see it for 659 at www.omahaoutdoors.com but not sure of how many magazines.

also SIG CPO(certified pre-owned guns) are carried by alot of online dealers at really good prices (seeing 350 - 550ish for excellent-like new SIGs), I've bought a CPO P229 before and it was a good gun, and once again CDNN sports has a ton of various like new P226/P229 some with german frames, I'm sure alot of other places have them too.

I love the P226 but two items in your question steer me away from that choice.... "Carry & Small Hands" The industry right now is leading with pocket carry pistols but I'm not a fan of that either... So: I'd say middle ground...(Compact or Carry) and a few good choices have been mentioned... my favorite is the now 'out dated' P239 but there are a number of choices well within your price range... and in my opinion Sig is the way to go.

I'd do a classic P228 and then spend the rest of the budget on upgrades. Trijicon HD's, G10 grips, GGI trigger, SRT kit and spring kit.

The slim G10's and medium GGI trigger will help it fit your hand a lot better.
